Frisco Wakeland Wolverines (22-4-1, 14-3-1)

Frisco Wakeland Soccer

The Wakeland Wolverines finished second in their district and put up the fight of their lives through playoffs in order to make it to the UIL state tournament. After ending the seasons of Wylie East, Dallas Hillcrest, and W.T. White, the Wolverines entered the Regional Tournament where they posted two incredible games.

During the regional semifinals, Wakeland bested Mt. Pleasant with a 3-0 victory before defeating Frisco Lone Star 5-3 in triple over time. With a strong offense that continues to fight for what they want, Frisco Wakeland has set themselves up for what could be a fifth state title.

Trimble Tech Bulldogs (29-3-1, 12-1-1)

The Trimble Tech boys soccer team is making their first appearance in the state tournament after finishing their regular season at the top of their district. So far this season, the Bulldogs have outscored their opponents by a combined 79 goals while posting 16 shut-out victories in the regular season. The team has recorded an 89% winning percentage in pursuit of a historic season.

Through playoffs, the Bulldogs have only allowed six goals. Trimble Tech has ended the seasons of Everman (9-2), Colleyville Heritage (3-2), Fort Worth Arlington Heights (4-0), Palo Duro (3-0), and Grapevine (3-2). Led by Julian Hernandez, Ivan Mulgado, Jonathan Villalpando, Daniel Gutierrez, and more, the Bulldogs have been able to control the tempo of all of their games this season.

The stage is extremely familiar to Wakeland, but because of that the Wolverines might find themselves a little ahead in confidence. Dallas-Fort Worth area high school sports fans know all too well that confidence alone won't win championships- many have fallen due to being ahead of themselves. Wakeland is going to have to go into the semifinals with a brand new mindset against this tough Trimble Tech team if they expect to make it to the state championship game.

Trimble Tech is brand new to the state tournament which means that this appearance means way more to them and they have far more to lose. The Bulldogs have put in the work all season to make this state appearance happen and will stop at nothing to make sure they make it to the state title game.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14th at Birkelbach Field in. Georgetown, Texas.
