THE HIERARCHY: VYPE SATX 2025 Week 5 Football Rankings; Harlan soars with key district win
While it’s still early in district play for most, a clearer sense of each team’s identity is emerging — and with that, a few programs are starting to build real momentum.
Despite suffering their first loss of the season, Steele maintains the top spot in our combined rankings. The Knights’ 37-14 defeat came at the hands of Austin Westlake — a well-known perennial State contender — and does little to diminish Steele’s status as a serious 6A threat. They’ll look to respond this Friday against district opponent Clemens.
Harlan, meanwhile, continues to strengthen its case as the area’s top team after a statement win over Brennan in a key District 28-6A opener. The Hawks looked sharp on both sides of the ball and will aim to stay perfect against O’Connor.
In 5A, Smithson Valley and New Braunfels remain standouts. The Rangers opened district play with a commanding victory over Boerne-Champion and now face a competitive Pieper team that just proved why they belong in the Top-10. New Braunfels, now 4-0, continues to impress with consistent performances and a stout defense.
Alamo Heights and Davenport also remain unbeaten, with both programs finding ways to win in different fashions. The Mules edged out Clemens in a tight contest and now face Boerne in one of this week’s most compelling matchups.
With several crucial district games on the horizon, Week 5 should provide even more clarity — and possibly a few surprises — as teams begin to hit their stride.
