THE RANKINGS: Is it the Year of the No. 28 Montgomery Bears?
LAST SEASON, MONTGOMERY WENT 28-19 OVERALL AND REACHED THE AREA ROUND OF THE PLAYOFFS AFTER DISPATCHING WEST FORK IN A CLEAN SWEEP IN THE OPENING ROUND.
The Bears fell to Friendswood in a five-set thriller to close out their season.
First-team, all-district pick Delaney Wright is coming off a superior sophomore season where she had 551 kills to lead the Bears and registered a second-best 494 digs. Wright earned a spot on the TGCA All-State Team. In 2024, Wright also set the single-match kills record with 33 against Friendswood, which broke the record set back in 2017.
UT-Dallas-commit Savannah Welch, a second-team, all-district pick, chipped in 267 kills and a team-leading 102 blocks, while honorable mention, all-district pick Peyton Harts had 194 digs, 164 kills and 40 blocks.
Second-team, all-district selection Ava Collins chipped in a team-leading 680 assists and 297 digs, while Kennedy Marriott, an
honorable-mention, all-district pick, had 469 assists and 229 digs to her name.

STORMI CHAMPION ENTERS HER THIRD YEAR OF LEADING THE MONTGOMERY VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM AND IS FRESH OFF A REGIONAL SEMIFINALS APPEARANCE IN 2023.
The Lady Bears went 32-18 a year ago and have plenty of firepower coming back to definitely be considered a contender in Class 5A.
Three-year letterman Ellie Sadler returns for Champion at the libero position, after accumulating 699 digs a year ago, which broke the single-season record.She was a second-team, all-district selection.
Delaney Wright returns as the big hitter for Montgomery, coming off a 545-kill campaign. Wright also racked up 543 digs, 57 aces and 36 blocks. She was the GHVCA Newcomer of the Year and the District 17-5A Newcomer of the Year.
Others to watch include Savannah Welch (172 kills, 82 blocks, 103 digs), McKenzie Hope (282 kills, 144 digs) and Peyton Harts (80 kills, 27 aces, 19 blocks, 185 digs).
Hope is coming back off an injury and should be a big piece to the Lady Bears’ success.
