For coach Verena Khalil, the 2026 season will center on consistency, chemistry, and integrating a new-look roster. “It will be a mostly new team with only five returners, so we will be relying on a quick offense to drive the speed of the game,” Khalil said. “We also have great team chemistry, with everyone sharing the workload and wanting to contribute in their roles.”
The Bears followed a strong 2025 campaign, finishing 29-14 overall, placing third in district play, and advancing to the third round of the postseason. Despite the roster turnover, Bridgeland returns several key pieces capable of keeping the program among the area’s top contenders.
Outside hitters Abigail Davenport and Maddie Wells return as primary offensive options and will be set up by setter Vanessa Conway, who directs the Bears’ fast-paced attack. In the middle, all-district honorable mention Avree Rawlins is positioned for a breakout season and could emerge as one of the team’s biggest surprises.
Avery Schneider stands out as the roster’s most versatile piece, capable of contributing as both an outside hitter and setter. Her all-around skill set makes her one of Bridgeland’s most valuable assets and a player unlikely to leave the floor.
The culture is already in place, and with emerging talent in the fold, Bridgeland has the foundation to build on last year’s success and push deeper into the postseason while adjusting to a new district (23-6A) following UIL realignment.
