Call it style points, strength of schedule or just a gut feeling, but Westlake’s convincing 37-14 win over a very good Cibolo Steele squad was finally enough to nudge the Chaparrals back in front of Lake Travis in this week’s Power Rankings.
Not that the Cavs did anything to hurt themselves with a convincing road win over a decent San Marcos team. Same with Dripping Springs, who blasted Johnson on the road to remain undefeated. Throw in Bowie, who improved to 3-1 after a solid road win at Judson to climb a spot, and the top 4 teams in District 26-6A will take a combined 14-2 record into what promises to be an entertaining district race. (And let’s throw in undefeated Akins. We’ll get a reality check on them when they face Dripping Springs this week, but kudos for pitching three shutouts in four games.)
Hutto and Cedar Ridge posted good wins to move up a couple of spots, while Hays reenters the rankings. Other than that, there was not a lot of movement this week with several teams enjoying their Byes.
Bowie vs. Lake Travis highlights District 26-6A as the final group of teams begin district play this week. Old rivals Vandegrift and undefeated Vista Ridge will clash Friday night in another marquee matchup. Here’s this week’s Power Rankings as we approach the halfway mark of the season.
