THE HIERARCHY: VYPE SATX 2025 Week 3 Football Rankings; Brennan, Alamo Heights make noticeable strides
With two weeks of the season already in the books, the competitive landscape in the San Antonio area is beginning to take on a more defined shape. While most teams are still fine-tuning their identities, early-season results have already offered insight into which programs are built for staying power.
At the top, Cibolo Steele continues to look sharp on both sides of the ball, following up its opening win with a convincing 28-13 victory over Reagan. The Knights return home this Friday to take on Brandeis.
Right behind them, Brennan picked up one of the most notable wins of the week, outlasting the 2024 UIL 5A-D1 State Champions, Smithson Valley, in last Thursday’s contest.
This should provide the Bears plenty of confidence as they hit the road for a matchup with Sotomayor, while the Rangers expect to bounce back against Madison.
Harlan remains unbeaten after edging out Madison and heads into a bye week with plenty to build on. Johnson, meanwhile, is 2-0 after a composed win over Pieper and will host McAllen Memorial in a non-district test.
New Braunfels and Alamo Heights have both opened with comfortable wins, with the Mules putting up 54 points last week ahead of their clash with Comal Canyon.
Pieper and Boerne have both shown early promise, while Davenport — the lone 4A representative in the Top 10 — has overwhelmed its first two opponents, racking up 66 points in last week’s rout of Tivy. However, the Wolves face a tougher challenge this Friday in a road game against Pieper.
With Week 3 on deck, matchups across classifications could start to reveal which teams are equipped to carry early success into the heart of the season.

THE HIERARCHY: VYPE SATX 2025 Week 2 Football Rankings; Steele flexes early, Pieper makes a statement
Week 1 of the high school football season brought a wave of convincing wins and eye-opening performances across the San Antonio metroplex, setting an early tone for what could be one of the more competitive years in recent memory.
Cibolo Steele left no doubt about its top spot, dominating Liberty Hill in a 45-10 rout. The Knights showcased a balanced attack and physical defense—qualities that have become synonymous with their program in recent years.
Just behind them, Smithson Valley looked every bit like a contender in the 5A ranks, overwhelming Roosevelt with a 62-6 statement win. The Rangers appear locked in as they aim to make a deeper postseason run this fall.
Brennan picked up perhaps the most battle-tested win of the weekend, grinding out a 21-13 victory over Reagan in a game defined by defense and disciplined execution. It was a measured, veteran-like performance that signals Brennan is ready for another strong year in 6A.
Meanwhile, Harlan lit up the scoreboard in a 48-40 shootout against East Central—an early sign that the Hawks’ offense can go toe-to-toe with anyone in the region.
Elsewhere, Johnson steamrolled Judson in a dominant showing, while Pieper pulled off one of the more significant wins of the week, edging past last year’s 5A Division II state semifinalist Boerne in a tight road contest.
New Braunfels also impressed with a 70-point explosion against Seguin, and Alamo Heights showed grit in a narrow win over Madison.
As the season continues, the San Antonio rankings remain fluid. With several teams flashing early playoff-caliber potential, Week 2 matchups may bring even more separation—or surprises.
