BREAKING: 2027 Manvel Four-Star S Karnell 'Greedy' James Jr. Flips his commitment from Texas to LSU
The decision to flip his commitment to LSU came down to the development James can receive from legendary Tigers defensive backs coach Corey Raymond.
"It was really the developmental piece with coach Raymond," James said on why he decided to flip his commitment. "LSU is DBU and he's the reason for it. Also LSU's culture both on and off the field is great and that's a place I feel I can grow both as a player and a man while being developed."

While the development aspect of playing for a program like LSU was a big factor in James' commitment, the family culture and relationships with the staff played a factor when he went on his official visit as well.
"Really the staff in general you could tell they have a close family feel type of staff and they care about the players," he said. "Also coach Raymond is not only a great coach but a great person and he keeps it real with you."
With his commitment to LSU now over, James tells VYPE he has shutdown his recruitment and is ready to focus in on his upcoming senior season at Manvel.
"It was a really hard choice but I'm happy with my choice and thankful for the coaches and ready to focus on my senior season," James said. "I feel like we've got a really great pieces this year especially on defense and I'm looking to have more production this season personally."
While his focus now turns to his upcoming senior season Greedy James had one final message to LSU fans on his commitment.
"Y'all are getting a dog," he said. "I'm a hard worker, I'm always going to keep my head down and work and definitely going to show who I am on the field."

VYPE 2020 Preview: Class 5A No. 1 Manvel Mavericks
The Mavs return only five starters from a 13-1 regional finalist. RB Jordon Vaughn (556 yards, 11 TDs) and RB De'monte' Seymour(426 yards, 7 TDs) have what it takes to pick up where Donovan Eaglin left off. For good measure, senior WRs Jalen Walthall (764 yards, 13 TDs) and Zion Johnkins (358 yards, 3 TDs), and junior WR Malachi McLean (353 yards, 3 TDs) bring perimeter speed, depth and an uncanny knack for finding the end zone. Gabriel Larry, a 6-foot-2 QB, has moved in from Louisiana and could be Tucker Yarbrough's replacement. Larry can spin it down the field and also run for yardage.
Offensive linemen Hunter Schroeder and Jaden Edmonson will protect him. Speaking of the trenches, the front will be the defensive strength for Manvel, thanks to J.P. Deeter and Josh Kennard (4 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, blocked punt). Linebacker Justin Medlock had an outstanding debut as a sophomore last season, averaging 8.4 tackles per game to go with 3.5 sacks, five passes defensed and two fumble recoveries.
