THE RANKINGS: No. 20 Manvel has experience; explosive offense
IT IS TIME TO “PUT IN THE WORK” AT MANVEL. THAT IS THE MAVERICKS MOTTO ENTERING THE 2025 SEASON, WHICH WILL BE THE 10TH UNDER HEAD COACH SUSAN KENNEDY.
Manvel went 30-14 a year ago and reached the Regional Semifinals before bowing out of the playoffs.
Four starters return for Kennedy, including Louisiana Tech-commit Kaycee Pennie (263 kills, 40 blocks) and University of Texas Rio
Grande Valley-commit Jasmyn Walker (34 blocks). First-team, all-district selection Nevaeh English (392 kills) is back along with second-team libero Emerson Chang (400 digs).
Another name to watch is second-team, all-district defensive specialist Sammy Guikema (308 digs). A new setter will have to step up for Manvel as the Mavericks say goodbye to Kenedy Massie (Prairie View A&M-signee).
Keys tosuccess for Kennedy’s team include having quality ball control, the four-year letter winners being great leaders and staying healthy.

BREAKING: 2026 Iowa Colony four-star WR Jayden Warren commit to Houston
Iowa Colony four-star wide receiver Jayden Warren has announced his commitment to Houston on 7/13 day.
The Pioneer star wide receiver commits to Houston over TCU and SMU.
For Warren, the decision to to commit to Houston was all about the loyalty the Houston staff has shown him from the beginning.
“Houston was there at the beginning of my recruitment and has stuck with me ever since offering,” Warren said. “That was really one of the biggest factors for me committing was just the loyalty they’ve shown me from the start.”
The ability to stay home and play at a Power Four school in Houston also meant a great deal to Warren.
“Just knowing that I’m close to home and my family is close by feels really good,” he said. “My family and friends are all excited and just being able to help build up that program that they’re building there is exciting.”
Now with his commitment out of the way, Warren is looking forward a big senior year with Iowa Colony.
“We lost a lot of people from last year’s team and we know we’re going to have to put in a lot of work to go further than we went last year,” Warren said. “Getting my commitment out of the way before the season was big for me because at the end of the day my goal is to go 16-0 before I head off to Houston.”
Houston has a star in Iowa Colony’s Jayden Warren, watch out for him and the Pioneers this fall as they look for another deep playoff run in 2025.
