UIL State Semifinals: DFW Girls 6A Soccer

As the UIL State Tournament kicks off, plenty of teams are fighting for their chance to hoist the championship trophy at the end of the weekend. As the UIL Class 6A girls gear up to play their respective state semifinal matchups, VYPE DFW takes a look at the two DFW-area teams that have made a name for themselves this season and are still in the running toward the championship!

Wylie East Lady Raiders (28-0, 16-0)

Wylie East Soccer

Friday, April 14 at 9:30 a.m.

The Lady Raiders have put up one of their best seasons yet this year. Posting an undefeated record while allowing only a combined five goals against them, Wylie East shut out 24 of their 28 opponents this season. To open preseason play, the Lady Raiders shut out seven straight teams (McKinney, North Forney, Plano East, Lake Highlands, Texarkana Texas, Longview, and Lufkin). Heading into district play on a high, the strong Wylie East squad continued their dominance taking down team after team with victories over the likes of Sachse, Wylie, Rowlett, Garland, and more.

So far in playoffs, the Lady Raiders have continued to make a name for themselves on the field as they've battled to claim their spot into the state tournament. Wylie East has ended the seasons of Royse City (8-0), Mansfield Legacy (3-2), Rockwall (1-0 in double overtime play), The Woodlands (3-0), and Cypress Bridgeland (2-0).

As the team prepares to take on a tough Ridge Point squad, fans can expect the Lady Raiders to continue their dominant style of play. Ridge Point is an excellent team that is going to give Wylie East a run for their money, but if the Lady Raiders continue to use their power to set the tone early in the game and play a physical match there is no reason fans shouldn't see them in the state title game.

Flower Mound Marcus Lady Marauders (24-1-1, 12-1-1)

Flower Mound Marcus Soccer

Friday, April 14 at 12 p.m.

Flower Mound Marcus has had an incredible season this year as they have allowed only 15 goals against them all season. With tenacity on the pitch and a can-do attitude every practice, the Lady Marauders have continued on their path toward the state tournament since preseason play where they opened up with eight victories- six of which were shut-outs- over the likes of Byron Nelson, El Paso Americas, Hebron, Kingwood, Austin Lake Travis, Montgomery Lake Creek, and more.

After opening their district schedule with a hard-fought loss against Hebron and a draw against Flower Mound, the Lady Marauders knew exactly what they needed to do to get back on track. Without looking back, Flower Mound Marcus took the rest of their regular season by storm defeating the likes of Plano West, Coppell, Lewisville, and more. Entering the playoffs, the Lady Marauders continued to dominate the scene as they ended the seasons of Denton Guyer (2-1 in double overtime), Richardson (12-2), Alen (2-1), Byron Nelson (1-0 in double overtime), and Southlake Carroll.

As the team prepares to take on Round Rock Westwood in the UIL Class 6A State Semifinals, fans can expect to see the usual strength on the field. Flower Mound Marcus is a team that likes to play fast offense and strategic defense. Looking to head to the state championship game, this matchup won't be where we see any slowdowns from the squad.
