PREVIEW: Flower Mound Marcus Lady Marauder Soccer
Posting an incredible 26-1-1 overall record last season, the Flower Mound Marcus Lady Marauders finished as the UIL Class 6A Girls Soccer State Champion. Back on the hunt, FM Marcus is ready to get the ball rolling and search of the program's third state title (2005, '23). VYPE DFW takes a look at what fans can expect from this team this year:
Rewind
Last season being "successful" would be an understatement when talking about Flower Mound Marcus' girls' soccer team. The squad opened up their year with several impressive non-district victories including those over Byron Nelson (4-0), Frisco Wakeland (5-1), El Paso Americas (10-0), and McKinney Boyd (2-1). With outstanding focus on the field, it was clear to see from the very beginning that this team had something special going for them.
Entering district play, the Lady Marauders proceeded to go 12-1-1 with their only loss being against Hebron early in district play followed by their only tie being against Flower Mound. Despite those two matches, the team kept their heads up and proceeded to dominate the field game after game with incredible victories over Plano West (6-2), Coppell (4-0), Plano (4-0), Plano East (5-0, 6-0), Plano (7-0), Lewisville (9-1), and more.
Securing a first-place finish in their district and an entry into the playoffs, Flower Mound Marcus never looked back as they won game by game until they were champions on the season. Through playoffs, the Lady Marauders sent Denton Guyer, Richardson, Allen, Byron Nelson, Southlake Carroll, Round Rock Westwood, and Ridge Point home-- capping their season with a crown.
This Season
Looking ahead to this season, Flower Mound Marcus has several incredible athletes returning to the field such as senior goalkeeper Bry Russell, Dylan Howard, Ella Dunn, Savannah Wylie, Allie Williams, Maddie Busch, Dakota McKee, Hannah Campos, Gabi Childress, Annika Denning, Kyra Faselle, and more. A mature, focused, and determined team built up of those who have already experienced what it's like to put in the hard work, fans can expect this squad to show up and show out from the very moment they step foot onto the field this season.
While there are a few newcomers, there's no doubt that this team is built by those who are already veterans at doing their job well. Prepared to take on the likes of Arlington Martin, Midlothian, Prosper, Montverde Academy, Highland Park, and more through non-district play, this team will be put through the wringer and battle-tested before their district play begins. With the resiliency to make it out unscathed, the Lady Mauraders will enter district play in late January focused on securing another successful season!
Mound Showdown: The Marauders gear up for the Jaguars
This week, Flower Mound Marcus sets to take on cross-town rival Flower Mound for another anticipated Mound Showdown. These two teams are looking to improve their record and battle hard on Friday, but what can fans expect to see? VYPE DFW dives into it:
Flower Mound Marcus Marauders (1-3, 1-0)
The Mauraders started their season off in a less-than-ideal fashion. The team opened their season with a 56-24 loss against Highland Park at home. The next game, Flower Mound Marcus traveled to Southlake and fell 57-15 against the Southlake Carroll Dragons. In their third game of the season, the Marauders put up a battle and did everything they could to fight hard against Euless Trinity, but ultimately fell 59-49.
Last week, the Marauders finally secured their first victory of the season as they posted a 34-33 victory in overtime over Hebron for their district opener. Patrick Crayton Jr. helped lead the team to victory while tallying 246 passing yards and three touchdowns. Tyle Hoke, Drew Koster, Ayson McCray Jones, Sheldon Armour, Jess McElroy, and others were also key contributors in the game. Looking to continue strong through district play, Flower Mound Marcus is ready for a battle in Flower Mound on Friday night.
Flower Mound Jaguars (2-2, 0-1)
The Jaguars have secured two victories so far this season-- a season-opening 38-31 victory over Keller Fossil Ridge and a week two 41-21 victory over Lake Highlands. Following their hot start, the team has only been able to scored a combined two points in their other two games-- a 30-7 loss against a tough McKinney team and a 34-7 district opening loss against Lewisville last week.
Led by the likes of Marcus Simpson, Jason Welch, Alex Winkle, Mason Macdonald, Jake Watson, Elliot Trawick, and others, the Jaguars are looking to improve on their record as they enter this week's cross-town rivalry against Flower Mound Marcus.
What To Expect
Last season, Flower Mound Marcus posted a 30-21 victory over the Jaguars and they'll look to defend their champions of the Mound title as they gear up for a Friday night battle. Flower Mound, however, is determined to not only put a stop to the Marauders this season, but to secure their first victory in district play.
Fans can expect a battle to the final whistle in this year's Mound Showdown. Both teams are fired up and ready to improve their schedule while also wanting to take claim to being the best team in Flower Mound. Fans aren't going to want to miss this physical, fast-paced matchup. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Flower Mound High School.
