Lamar Mustangs prepare to take the field.

Madison Morris

Lamar Consolidated High School football came out on top Friday night, ending their two-game losing streak with a much needed 55-14 win against Montgomery.

Baylor commit Taye McWilliams, who finished with 121 yards and three scores on 11 carries, scored the first touchdown of the night for Lamar Consolidated with 7:10 left in the first quarter. Montgomery remained scoreless throughout the entire first half and trailed Lamar Consolidated 28-0 at halftime.

Lamar Consolidated quarterback Byron Harris finished 9 of 15 for 145 yards and a touchdown.

After the break, Montgomery scored one touchdown each in the third and fourth quarters, respectively. They were unsuccessful in their comeback attempts in the end. Montgomery now stands at 1-4 in district play.

Montgomery will seek a key win next week against Paetow while Lamar Consolidated hopes to clinch a playoff spot with a win over Cleveland at their homecoming game.

LEAGUE ONE VOLLEYBALL (LOVB) WELCOMES HOUSTON TEXANS AS THE OWNERSHIP GROUP OF ITS HOUSTON PRO TEAM

LOS ANGELES, CA – November 6, 2025 – League One Volleyball (LOVB) – the largest community in youth volleyball with its professional volleyball league embarking on its second season this January – today announced Lone Star Sports & Entertainment, an affiliate of the Houston Texans, as the new ownership group of LOVB Houston Volleyball. Texans Chair and CEO Cal McNair and Vice President of the Houston Texans Foundation Hannah McNair spearheaded the investment, furthering the family’s leadership in Houston’s sports landscape and commitment to advancing women’s athletics.

“Cal and Hannah McNair deeply care about the Houston community, and their passion for growing Houston sports makes them an ideal partner,” said Rosie Spaulding, President for LOVB Pro. “Their proven track record of championing athletes from youth to pro and building community impact is exactly what will power this next stage of LOVB Houston’s success, so we’re thrilled to welcome them to LOVB.”

LOVB has reimagined professional volleyball with a community-up model that connects youth, college, and pro athletes inside one unified ecosystem. In Houston, that includes the nationally ranked Houston Skyline junior club, with more than 1,300 athletes across the city. This integrated approach drives participation, develops elite talent, and builds lifelong fandom by linking local communities directly to the professional stage.

“The more we learned about LOVB throughout this process, the more it felt like a natural fit for us to invest and be a part of what they’re building,” said Hannah McNair. “It has always been a priority for us to elevate sports opportunities in Houston, especially for women and youth, and this falls right in line with that initiative. Similar to our investment in flag football, we believe this will make a major impact on the community and grow our fan base in H-Town, where volleyball is booming in popularity. LOVB has created a powerful pipeline from the grassroots to the pros, and as a result, the world’s top talent consistently wants to play here. We look forward to helping make LOVB Houston a must-see experience for fans across our city.”

LOVB Chief Growth Officer Stephanie Alger, with assistance from leading international law firm Proskauer, led the ownership agreement negotiations with the Houston Texans.

Today’s announcement comes as LOVB Houston unveils its 2026 season calendar, which kicks off on January 8, 2026 at the Berry Center. With an expanded schedule that features 10 home matches, LOVB Houston is introducing the Berry Center alongside the Fort Bend County Epicenter as its home venues for 2026. Featuring two-time Olympic Medalist and 2025 LOVB Pro Opposite Hitter of the Year Jordan Thompson, two-time Olympic Medalist Micha Hancock, and NCAA Champion and Tournament MVP Jess Mruzik, LOVB Houston is now back in the practice gym as they get ready for their home opener. Tickets are now on sale at lovbhtx.com.

LOVB’s commitment to building something lasting is reflected not just in the roster, but in LOVB’s team ownership model, which unites team and league equity to align incentives for long-term growth. With more than 46 million volleyball fans in the U.S., LOVB continues to expand access to the sport while shaping the future of professional volleyball nationwide, and together with the McNairs as partners, drive fandom across Houston.

In addition to Cal and Hannah McNair, LOVB has attracted leading investors across sports, entertainment and business who all believe in the deliberate, community-first approach to its growth. Today, LOVB operates the nation’s largest youth platform, serving over 25,000 junior athletes and 3,000 coaches in 28 states. Building on that foundation, LOVB launched its pro league with teams in Atlanta, Austin, Houston, Madison, Nebraska and Salt Lake, featuring championship-caliber athletes, elite coaches, and world-class staff, which will return for its second season in January 2026, with Los Angeles joining in 2027.
