GO BEARCATS: College Park QB Camden Hughes making history committing to Cincinnati
2027 College Park quarterback Camden Hughes announced his commitment to Cincinnati in mid April.
Hughes is coming off a big junior season leading the Cavaliers to the Regional Semifinal round of the playoffs for the first time in school history as he threw for 2,648 yards with 36 passing touchdowns and rushed for 424 yards with nine rushing touchdowns.
For Hughes, the decision to commit to Cincinnati came down to fit, development and relationships.
"The main reason I chose to commit was because I felt like it was the right fit for me both on and off the field," Hughes said. "The offensive system and scheme that they have is similar to how I play so I know I will be developed there. The relationships were a big part of it too and when I went up there it was just a wow factor and knew this is where I want to call home."
Like the history that was made on the field in 2025, Hughes is making history as the first ever College Park quarterback to be going to the Power Four level for football which means a great deal to the rising junior.
"I'm truly blessed to be in this position," he said. "Starting football in seventh grade and seeing where I'm at now is amazing. Being able to play for this team and being surrounded by a great group of guys and being coached by coach Coats and his staff to now coach Buro to help develop me more into a college quarterback is such a blessing."
Coming off an undefeated district championship and 3rd round playoff appearance, Hughes is now focused on a big senior year trying to bring a state championship back to College Park.
"Some personal goals I have this year are to be rated and ranked as one of the top quarterbacks in the state and also to throw for 3,000 yards passing and get 50 passing touchdowns as well," Hughes said. "As a team we have really solidified our main goal as bringing a state championship back to College Park. I know with the guys we have around us we can do that and with that goal in mind I know we're headed in the right direction."
Camden Hughes and College Park put H-Town on notice in 2025, look for both Hughes and the Cavs to pick right up where they left off in 2026 with bigger aspirations in mind.
VYPE U: College Park Football Powers Past Kingwood
Saturday afternoon VYPE U was on hand as The Woodlands College Park Football team drew hundreds of fans to Woodforest Stadium for their first home game of the season. Supporters decked out in pink for "Pink Out Night" and seniors and their families celebrated "Senior Night". The Cavaliers entered with a 3-1 record while the Kingwood Mustangs entered with an 0-4 record for the season.
The Cavaliers came out electric in the first quarter. Junior Quarterback, Ty Buckmon, was able to make contact with junior Alex Brigman twice to secure two touchdowns. The first quarter concluded with the Cavaliers keeping the Mustang scoreless (12-0).
Dylon DeAngelo was able to start the second quarter off by scoring on a 3-yard run. He was then followed by Juniors Cody Mladenka (12 yards) and Alex Brigman (25 yards) who continued the touchdown streak. Soon after, the Mustangs were not able to be stopped by the College Park Defense during a 4th down and were able to get their first points of the game. The Cavaliers were able to close out the first half of the game with a comfortable 34-7 lead over the Mustangs.
The members of the College Park Defense, Dylan Hazen (Wake Forest Commit), Chance Jackson, Andrew Edmonson, and Marcus Scott, helped paved the way to keep Kingwood scoreless throughout the 3rd quarter. A Kingwood turnover forced by Joseph Golden at the end of the quarter kept the score at 34-7.
With 1:33 remaining, the Cavaliers were able to add an additional touchdown to the board. The final score of the game was 41-7. The Cavaliers effort and strong performance is only the beginning for them this season.
College Park Football is entering a bye week but will be back at Woodforest Stadium on October 30th for their homecoming game against Grand Oaks. They will then face the bulk of their district competitors in Willis, Oak Ridge, and The Woodlands. This talented team is hoping to make a playoff run this season, and their performance on Saturday is evidence that they can do so.
