VYPE U: JJ's GRIT

Have you ever seen a high school lacrosse player who has played since 6th grade, developed her game very well in a short period of time, received an offer from San Diego State University, played in two different club teams at two different levels and has impacted her community all at the same time? Well if you haven't, now you have. Jamyria Woods, also known as "JJ", has been playing lacrosse for almost six years with Bridge Lacrosse in Dallas, Texas. VYPE U takes a look into why JJ is such a special player.

She is a multifaceted lacrosse player thus she can be placed in any position, whether that be defense or midfield. During her time in Bridge, she has developed top tier skills that have led her to her very first Division I offer. This spring she left the field with 18 goals in just 6 games. Her speed, agility, footwork and stickwork have led her to play with the lacrosse club team "GRIT" which has helped her take her game to a higher level regarding competition. Let's take a look at the GRIT Houston VS GRIT Dallas game:

In the second quarter, a battle for the ground ball begins, but then Woods uses her speed and swiftly scoops through the ground ball. This allows her to promptly run down the field and pass to her teammate, number 34, who makes a sharp cut and executes a perfect goal. This highlight really showcases Jamyria's speed, field awareness and ability to play middy which are very important to the game of lacrosse. Of course, this goal ended in a little celebration dance from JJ.

Towards the end of the game, she executes a perfect defensive move and stops a goal from yielding. The ball begins in the stick of a Houston player and while she is trying her best to create movement in order to get to goal, JJ plants her feet, puts her stick up against the opponents hip and executes perfect footwork. All of these elements combined created a defensive stop for JJ and her team. The versatility of her game is what has made her an outstanding player and athlete overall.
