LAST GO-AROUND: The Colony's Coleman, Hamlin hope to go out on top...again

Since playing varsity softball, Class 5A The Colony has made the postseason.

The Cougars are legit under the direction of Deana Coleman, winning state in 2017 and reaching the state tournament a year ago.

Coleman is blessed with a pair of superstars in 2020 in Jacee Hamlin and Jayda Coleman – her daughter.

"Last year, we weren't really expecting to get to state," Hamlin, a first-team, all-state selection said. "I'm super proud of that team because we got back to the Final Four."

Hamlin is a catcher/centerfielder who has signed with Texas Tech.

"I visited several campuses, but Texas Tech just felt like home," she said.

Coleman has been one of the most decorated athletes to come out of The Colony. The star shortstop is a three-time, all-state selection and the District MVP. In softball, she has been District Newcomer of the Year and Utility MVP over her four years.

She was the Dallas Morning News Softball Player of the Year and is the No. 1 recruit in the country. She is a USA Today All-American and was chosen for the USA Softball Junior Women's National Team. Coleman has signed to Oklahoma. She's big-league.

"This year's team is one of the best offensive and defensive teams we've ever had," she said. "But we just lost our senior pitcher that we are going to need to fill that spot. We need someone to go at batters and let our defense do the work."

The is the last year for mother and daughter to do work in Texas high school softball. Can they capture another title?
