THE HIERARCHY: Updated VYPE HOU VB Rankings; Multiple teams ascend, along with New No. 1 // Powered by LOVB

Just a few weeks into the high school volleyball season, and the Greater Houston landscape is already beginning to take shape – with a handful of shifts.

While some perennial contenders have held firm, others have surged forward with statement wins and breakout performances, setting the stage for what’s shaping up to be a wide-open fall.

Cypress Ranch has jumped to the top of the Class 6A rankings with an undefeated 11-0 start, showcasing depth and cohesion in nearly every phase of play. Not far behind is Dawson, quietly piecing together a dominant 14-1 run that suggests staying power deep into the season.

Grand Oaks, ranked third, remains firmly in the hunt — now with even more firepower. The return of two-time state MVP Halle Thompson from international duty with Team USA gives the Grizzlies a unique edge as they recalibrate for a deeper push.

Several others are making early noise. Tompkins and Fulshear continue to flex their top-tier potential, while Bridgeland and Seven Lakes have remained steady behind strong core rotations.

Tomball has made perhaps the most dramatic leap, riding a 17-2 start into the top 10. And Clear Springs has been one of the season’s more welcome surprises — its offense has proven explosive and difficult to contain.

In 5A, Friendswood holds onto the No. 1 spot for now, though Montgomery has been steadily climbing behind the standout play of Delaney Wright and Ava Collins.

Barbers Hill and West Fork — the latter off to an impressive 17-3 start — are also subtly building strong résumés, hinting at a more competitive 5A race in the near future.

With district play fast approaching, the margins between elite and emerging teams are already razor-thin — and if early results are any indication, the top of the rankings may look very different by October.
