Recover Strong to Run Fast Presented by Texas R.I.C.H.

Track and field athletes must prepare for their competitions long before they reach the starting line. Though competition season typically runs from January to July, athletes must strive to stay in shape during the winter months and work on injury prevention techniques constantly. Jayla Fields, a junior track and field star for Northwestern State University, can attest to this. She has spent her falls and winters training, recuperating from injuries, and working to be ready for competition season.

Some of the injuries she's experienced throughout her athletic career include turf toe, locked knee, lower back problems, hamstring strains, and ankle sprains. In order to get back on the track and continue competing, Jayla has focused on taking care of and rehabbing each of these injuries with special care.

By receiving treatment from Dr. Lisa Patel, she has been able to continue competing in the sport she loves. She states, "Dr. Patel has helped me improve my physical health through multiple injuries, taught me important injury prevention methods and how to give the best care I can to my body, and ultimately helped me achieve some of my life-long goals as a college athlete." Jayla has certainly earned several incredible achievements in the last few years. To name just a few, she has led her team in getting runner-up for indoor conference champions (2019), first place in conference in the outdoor 4x4 race (2019), runner-up for outdoor conference champions (2019), and first place in conference in the indoor 4x4 race (2020). Jayla has also taken 4th place in the outdoor 200 meter race and long jump (2019).
