Columbia is coming off an 8-4 campaign that saw the Roughnecks reach the Area Round of the playoffs. Third-year coach Earnest Pena returns an impressive 14 starters to his team, including University of Houston-commit Mudassir Abdullah after rushing for 1,178 yards and 10 touchdowns. Abdullah registered six games with more than 100 yards rushing in 2024 and had 259 yards receiving as well. He was also a second-team, all-district defensive selection at corner with a team-leading three interceptions and 42 tackles. Additionally on offense, first-team, all-district selections WR/DB Logan Lewis (262 yards, 3 TDs; 2 INT, 43 tackles) and OL Billy Williams are set to be back. Another key returner is Braden Gilliam, who had 76 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and one sack. Also back is second-teamer Benjamin Bailes (OL). Defensively, OLB Kriztopher Alvarez (69 tackles, 3 sacks) is back along with Lewis, who plays corner for the Roughnecks as well. Lewis was a first-team, all-district defensive selection as well after registering 43 tackles and two interceptions.

Wharton is seeking their first playoff appearance since 2017. The Tigers are led by first-year head coach Jason Haddock. Wharton went 5-5 a year ago and return 15 starters off that team. The District 10-4A-DII Offensive MVP in Ja’Keon Jackson is back after rushing for 874 yards and 13 scores and passing for another 20 touchdowns. Brandon Sims Jr. is coming off a 525-yard rushing campaign and was named second-team, all-district. Other key returners include DL Derek Austin (first-team, all-district) and WR Ja’Marion Beniot (161 receiving yards; second-team, all-district).

Brookshire Royal enters the fifth year under Theadis Reagins at the helm. The Falcons went 7-4 a year ago and reached the Bi-District Round. Brookshire Royal returns 15 starters from a year ago, including District Defensive MVP Jaylan Palmer and Stephen F. Austin-commit Tyler Lavallier (DL). All-District selections Malik Hooker (LB) and Braylon Reado (OT) are also set to return. Other players to watch include Broedrick Burr (DT), Julius Gilmore (DE), Zaevion Shelton (DE), Justtus Dilworth (OG), Bradon Douglas (DB), Jaylon Johnson III (WR) and Kaysi-Flening Brown (WR).

La Marque returns some key pieces off its playoff team from 2024. The Cougars bring back first-team, all-district picks Brandon Harris (OL), Kamaury Robinson (DL) and Zadrian Hooker (LB). Second-teamers JD Oliver (WR), Zaelen Munoz (OL) and Brendan Harris (LB) are also set to return.

Sweeny went 5-6 overall a year ago and reached the playoffs after going 4-2 in district play. The Bulldogs were senior heavy in 2024 and return just a handful of all-district selections. First-team, all-district picks Holden Hopkins (OL) and Keshaun Woolsey are coming off stellar sophomore campaigns. The duo will anchor the line up front for the Bulldogs.

Katy Harmony won one game last season, which came against the Harmony School of Innovation in a 24-6 victory. First-team, all-district punter Sebastian Mussett is set to return.

Harmony School of Innovation went 0-10 last year and scored just 35 points all season.
