Cy Creek cruises past Summer Creek; sets up Regional Final with Clear Springs

KATY – Cypress Creek looked unstoppable.

Rori Harmon worked the ball up the court with her right-hand time and time again before either nailing a James Harden style step-back, fade away jumper or quickly flipping the ball to a teammate for an easy bucket.

The junior finished with 13 points.

There was also Kyndall Hunter – who scored a team-high 22 points. And Morgan Hill, who finished with 15.

All three were in double digits in scoring before the midway point of the third quarter. The trio would not let this year end like last. On the floor of the Merrell Center in the Regional Semifinals against the same team.

Cypress Creek left little doubt of who would be playing for a spot in the Alamodome come Saturday as they blew out Summer Creek 65-37, avenging the loss from 2019.

"You work towards this moment, obviously," Cypress Creek coach Jennifer Alexander said. "Getting back here, we've always said [Summer Creek's] the Region III Champs until they are not. So, that was a big hurdle tonight."

Cypress Creek improves to 39-0 on the year with the win and will face Clear Springs on Saturday, which beat Ridge Point earlier on Friday, in the Region III-6A Final.

"They are a very good defensive team," Alexander said about Clear Springs. "So we've got to come ready to work. We will get back to the scouting report tomorrow on them."

The Cougars have been in this spot before.

Two years ago, when Harmon and Hunter were just freshmen that the high school basketball world was still discovering, Cypress Creek reached the Regional Finals for the first time in program history.

Now, the duo is one win away from returning to state again. But this time the feeling is different.

"As freshmen we didn't really know what was ahead of us," Hunter said. "We were just moving on momentum. But now, I think we're much smarter and I think we're more prepared for what's coming ahead of us."

While Harmon and Hunter are the headliners of the Cypress Creek team, but they will quickly tell you it takes more than them. It takes Taylor Jackson, Ri'Yah Francis, Ally Haman and Jasmyn Jackson.

It has taken the entire team to reach 39-0.

"It's been everybody," Hunter said. "Without the rest of our team, you know you can't play two against five. So everyone plays their role and plays their part. Sometimes everyone has a different role. But no matter what, my team they help us."
