FIELD POSITION: 2026 VYPE DFW Football Rankings — Week 2 | Allen, North Crowley reshape the Top 20
Week 1 is the ultimate gut-check of the sports world. The questions that lingered through the offseason finally meet a scoreboard, and for several of the area’s top teams, the answers came quickly.
Allen made perhaps the loudest statement, handling Duncanville, 26-7, in a rematch of last year’s State Final Four matchup. The Eagles didn’t just open the season with a win; they answered one of the more painful exits from a year ago. They’ll get another major test Friday when DeSoto comes to town.
North Crowley offered its own statement, shutting out Aledo, 26-0, in the Bearcats’ first game since moving up to 6A. Southlake Carroll, meanwhile, survived an Oklahoma heavyweight in Jenks, 34-33, setting up one of Week 2’s most intriguing matchups when the Dragons travel to North Crowley.
Elsewhere, Waxahachie wasted little time making noise, blasting Ennis, 72-14, in the latest edition of the Battle for 287. Guyer, Coppell and Prosper also opened with convincing wins, while Lone Star, Celina, Melissa, Ryan and Anna showed why the 5A picture could be every bit as competitive.
Not every contender got the start it wanted. South Oak Cliff and DeSoto both suffered difficult losses, along with Duncanville, while Argyle and Highland Park also fell in close or high-scoring affairs. But one week rarely defines a season. If Week 1 was about finding answers, Week 2 is where some of those answers get tested.
