WITH THE DEPARTURE OF SEVERAL HIGH SCHOOL STARS TO THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL PREP SCHOOLS AND ACADEMIES, THE TITLE OF THE “KING OF THE COURT” IN HOUSTON IS WIDE OPEN FOR THE TAKING.

CHECK OUT SOME OF THE AREA’S HIGH FLIERS, DISTRIBUTORS AND THREE-POINT SPECIALISTS, WHO WILL FILL UP STATS SHEETS ON THE WAY TO THE REGIONAL TOURNAMENT AND BEYOND.

Kenneth Lewis - Booker T. Washington '23

The Prairie View A&M-signee has put Washington back on the map. The 6-foot-5 scorer can do it with a deft touch or in transition.

Josh Akpovwa - Seven Lakes '23

The senior has a big personality and lives in the paint. The Incarnate Word-signee can block shots, clear the boards and put defenders in the rim with some bounce.

Justin Begg - Episcopal '24

Mr. Big Shot. Hit the game-winner for SPC Title last year. Fearless scorer with great handles. His court vision is one of the best in H-Town.

TJ Ford Jr. - Ridge Point '23

Explosive first step. Great mid-range pull up with sneaky bounce. Son of Houston legend TJ Ford, who played for Texas and in the NBA.

Bryce Smith - Barbers Hill '23

Program guy who is a coach on the floor. He’s super-effective and never turns the ball over. What sets him a part is his basketball IQ and unselfishness.

Aaron Perez - Klein Collins '24

Never met a shot he didn’t like. Can pull up from anywhere on the court but can also get to the rim when needed.

Sebastian Williams-Adams - St. John's '25

No. 20 recruit in the nation. A 6-foot-7, point-forward who is a triple-threat that will also play defense. Huge upside.

Orlando Horton - Clear Falls '23

One of south Houston’s top talents, who will be in the running for District MVP. He could reach 1,000 points this season. Aggressive to the rim and a deft shooting touch.

Montana Wheeler - Houston Christian '25

Started as a freshman, Wheeler’s brother starts at the University of Kentucky. No one will out work this gym rat. Great leadership qualities. Nice touch.

Jaylen Benard - Cypress Ranch '23

Suffered an ACL injury and is completely recovered. The combo-guard is a Longwood-commit and one of the best comeback stories in the city.

Corey Hadnot - Cypress Creek '23

The Purdue-Fort Wayne signee gets to the paint very well and his mid-range, pull-up off the dribble is unstoppable. He will carry the load for the Cougars.

Shey Eberwein - The Woodlands '23

The South Dakota-signee has deep range at 6-foot-5. He can go for 30 points on any given night because of his lethal shot. No moment too big for him.

Shelton Henderson - Bellaire '25

Inner-city star. The 6-foot-5 physical guard has worked on his jump shot and now has a complete game. He also does the dirty work on the glass.

Keylon Dorsey - Eisenhower '23

The Sam Houston-signee is a volume shooter with a great work ethic. He’s up at 5 am putting up shots every day. He’s the long-range assassin in Aldine ISD.

Jason Scott - Westbury Christian '25

One of the area’s fastest-rising prospects. Good catch-and-shoot guard, who is committed to working on his handles. He can posterize people.

Qasim Boyd - Dickinson '24

One of the area’s most improved players. He’s a tough shot-taker and tough shot-maker. Combo guard, who lets the game come to him.
