2025-26 Grand Oaks Girls Basketball
THE LAYUP LINE: No. 9 Grand Oaks Grizzlies
No. 9 -- GRAND OAKS GRIZZLIES
Led by Shiakiea Carter (7th year; 134-58), the Grizzlies roared to 31 wins last season, advancing to the 6A-D2 Regional Semifinals in the process.
While last year’s leading scorer, Bree Riley, has moved on to Abilene Christian University, plenty of firepower returns to the mix. Junior Hannah Reynolds — a first-team, all-district selection — averaged 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals per game last season and is expected to anchor the Grizzlies’ backcourt.
Fellow first-teamer Avery Campbell (Jr. SF) is poised to thrive in an expanded role, while senior Jordan Daigle (Prairie View A&M-commit) strengthens the frontcourt after transferring from Oak Ridge. Other players to watch include K’Mylii Nettles, Zoe Harris, and Danielle Roland, each contributing in their own way.
For Carter, replicating last year’s energy will require focus on fundamentals and cohesion. “We need to continue respecting the game of basketball, pressuring defensively, keeping an up-tempo style, meeting my athletes where they are, and rising together,” she said.
2025-26 La Porte Girls Basketball
THE LAYUP LINE: No. 11 La Porte Bulldogs
No. 11 -- LA PORTE BULLDOGS
Riding the high of a 28-11 season, a district title, and a lengthy playoff run that reached the Regional Semifinals, the Lady Bulldogs are set to make their mark in 5A once again.
With 15th-year coach Elisha Thompson back at the helm, the program flexes a wealth of experience to lead the charge.
At the forefront is senior Jakayla Glover, a TABC All-Region selection and first-team, all-district honoree. She’s joined by fellow first-teamer Sophia Rodriguez (Sr. G), along with second-team selection, Kaia Greenawalt (Jr. F). Furthermore, there will be plenty of input from the likes of Celeste Cruz (Sr. G), Skylynn Keever (Sr. F), and sophomore Isabella Rodriguez (So. G).
Though District 20-5A remains highly competitive — particularly with Iowa Colony and Friendswood — La Porte has the experience, talent, and coaching stability to contend at the top.
