THE POWER RANKINGS: McNeil win scrambles the Rankings; District 25-6A race

On any given night.

While Westlake and Dripping Springs rolled and Lake Travis had their Bye, the biggest story from last Friday night was McNeil’s upset of state-ranked Vandegrift. With a quarter of our ranked teams enjoying their Bye weeks, that result sent shock waves throughout the rankings, where the Vipers slid down and the other four District 25-6A teams either moved up or stayed put.

How messed up is that district? Vista Ridge defeated Round Rock; Vandegrift defeated Vista Ridge; McNeil defeated Vandegrift; Round Rock defeated McNeil. (Hutto has yet to play the top contenders.) Buckle up!

Also moving up as a result were the top 5A teams in the area: Anderson, Bastrop, Weiss and Georgetown.

The bottom half of this week’s Power Rankings was relatively stable. LBJ and picked up wins to move up, as did Cedar Park and Hays. The latter two received some help when Hendrickson lost at College Station. And new to the Rankings is East View, no longer flying under the radar after improving to 4-1 with a solid win over Belton.

There are some huge matchups between ranked teams coming up this week, including Vista Rodge vs. McNeil; Bowie vs. Dripping Springs; Cedar Park vs. East View and Anderson vs. Hendrickson. And we’ll be here to pick up the pieces and sort out next week’s comers and goers.
