The Houston area is loaded with talented athletes, who give it their all on their respective fields of play.
Welcome to the VYPE Playmakers, powered by UTMB Health, where we highlight five standouts who have advanced their playing careers to the collegiate level. Here are the UTMB Alumni Standouts.
Tramon Mark--Dickinson HS Grad (Plays for UH Basketball)
Bradley C. Collier (VYPE)
Dickinson’s own Tramon Mark enjoyed a stellar high school career, averaging nearly 30 PPG, and leading the Gators to the Regional Finals, during his undefeated senior year, before COVID-19 forced the rest of the season to be canceled. The 6’5 Point Guard then moved on to play for the Houston Cougars, where he is currently a starter and is having his best collegiate season, yet.
Brooke McCarty-Williams--Clear Springs HS Grad (Played for UT & WNBA)
Clear Springs Alum, McCarty-Williams, was a beast for the Mustangs, averaging over 25 points per game, and establishing her school as a major player in Texas Girls Basketball. Following her graduation, in 2014, she would continue to make headlines, at the University of Texas, helping the Longhorns reach the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament, each year she played. From there, she advanced to the WNBA to play Guard for the Los Angeles Sparks (2018) and the Dallas Wings (2019).
Chad Lindberg--Clear Creek HS Grad (Plays for Georgia Football)
Bradley C. Collier (VYPE)
Lindberg was a four-star Offensive Tackle for the Wildcats, before graduating in 2020, and was a monster in drive-blocking situations. So much so, that his excellence on, and off, the field earned him the chance to play for the current National Champions, the Georgia Bulldogs. While only a sophomore, he was able to play some snaps in Georgia’s 65-7 win over TCU. He will, surely, make even more of an impact in the coming years.
Dylan Maxcey--Friendswood HS Grad (Plays for Texas Tech Baseball)
Friendswood Alum, Dylan Maxcey, played a major role in the Mustangs’ five-round playoff run, during his senior year (2021). With a .371 batting average, while leading the team in home runs and RBIs, he was a lock for his recruitment to Texas Tech. He currently plays Catcher for the Red Raiders and is seeking to establish himself as a potential professional.
Brooke Botkin--Pearland HS Grad (Played for USC Volleyball)
One of Pearland’s greatest Outside Hitters, Botkin was a significant part of the Lady Oilers’ consistent postseason appearances, throughout her high school career (2014-2017). Her extraordinary talent led to her playing for USC, where she earned Pac-12 All-Conference Team honors each year she played. Currently, Botkin is embarking on her professional volleyball career, in Switzerland’s A1 League, where she plays for Geneve Volley.

To the victors, go the spoils.
The Second Baptist School baseball team was recognized during halftime of last Friday’s basketball game for their 2022 TAPPS Division II State Championship. The Eagles received their rings in front of the Second Baptist School faithful.
“It’s always great to being alumni back to campus and give them State Championship rings with their coaches and teammates,” SBS athletic director Mike Walker said. “This marks the 32nd State Championship in school history. While titles are a huge accomplishment, we know that success is not defined by championships alone.”
Last year, the Eagles captured the program’s sixth State Title with a win over The Brook Hill School, capping off a 24-6 season. Luke Pettitte, Turner Murdock, Elijah Marrero and Noah Weisser were named to the All-Tournament Team.
“Thank you to this amazing group of coaches and players who represented our school so well,” Walker said. We are extremely proud.”

Cameryn Johnson knew, at a very young age, that swimming was her thing.
The Klein Oak senior played almost every sport, as a kid, but was at her best when she was in the water.
“I liked how it was a summer sport,” Johnson said. “I did summer league swim and I loved racing people and winning. Every time I touch the wall, I get that instant gratification.”
There’s been a lot of gratification. Ever since she was six years old, Johnson has dominated any and all competitors.
“Even then, a lot of people saw me as a swimmer,” Johnson said. “Like, that was my thing. But I didn’t really pick it until I got to high school. I finally figured I needed to focus my time on swim if I was going to be the best I can be in that one sport.”
Bradley C. Collier (VYPE)
She’s certainly there. Johnson is District 14-6A’s back-to-back 100 freestyle champion. She was the number one seed in the 100-freestyle and third in the 50-freestyle at the Region IV-6A Championships, last year. She helped Oak’s 200-freestyle relay to a second-place finish at Regionals. It’s no surprise, then, that colleges desired her talent, considering Johnson is, now, a Missouri State commit.
“I’m a very social person and I like to have friends who are like my family,” Johnson said. “Right when I got to Missouri State, my host made me feel like she was my sister. The whole team made me feel like we were best friends. The coach I have now is pretty much a twin of my high school coach. They’re almost exactly alike, they even look alike. I feel like all that will make the transition to college easier.”
Outside of swimming, Johnson is very much involved with her school. She is a singer in Oak’s Chorale choir. She is also a staff member for her school’s media team and helps cover Friday night football by doing interviews and digital media. Johnson wants to be an international broadcaster, having gone on international mission trips with her church every summer. This summer, she spent two weeks in Alaska.
“Everybody I know sees being an international broadcaster,” Johnson said.“It’s pretty cool.”
