The trophy case at Pearland Oilers just got a little more crowded.
Pearland captured the UIL State Championship with a 6-3 victory over Waco Midway Panthers, securing the program’s fourth state title and adding to championship runs in 1996, 2010 and 2023.
Leading the way was standout pitcher Madelyn Guzman, who delivered a dominant performance in the circle, striking out nine batters and helping guide the Oilers to state gold.
Head coach Michelle Hyden pushed all the right buttons throughout the postseason as Pearland navigated a challenging playoff path to once again reach the top of Texas high school softball.
VYPE’s Matt Malatesta and Matthew Ogle caught up with the state champions to discuss their championship journey, the emotions of winning a title and what it means to bring another trophy back to Pearland.
