4 Week 2 Knee-Jerk Reactions
After a 16-8 Week 2 record, I stand at 29-15 (65.9 percent), which continues the trend set last week. That'll need to improve.
But to the football reactions from Week 2 - wow. Some impressive numbers put up all over the place from all levels of competition.
So with that said, here are four of the wildest knee-jerk reactions from this past week.
Myles Price and Marvin Mims are the Best
Simply put, the two best wide receivers in 5A are in District 5-5A Division I with The Colony's Myles Price and Frisco Lone Star's Marvin Mims. Not only did their respective teams roll in Week 2, but these two put up gargantuan numbers, combining for 442 yards receiving on 14 catches and totalling 5 touchdowns. What's scarier is that each player ONLY played a half. Yowzers.
Doubling Down on Guyer
For the second week in a row, Guyer knocked off a state-ranked team (Cedar Hill) to win a close one - this time on a neutral field. Still, the Denton Guyer from a few years ago appears back and they seem to have all the pieces to be considered state title contenders. The offense is potent, but the defense will need to improve for Guyer to win it all.
Go Ahead and Crown Argyle
Not only was Argyle one of my eight losses in Week 2, they seemingly dominated reigning 4A state champ Waco La Vega - ON. THE. ROAD. The Eagles were ready for a fight, jumping out to a 28-7 first quarter lead and was able to hold on to win by two scores. Tito Byce was phenomenal in rushing the ball 43 times for 200-plus yards. Do not be surprised to see Argyle claim No. 1 in state rankings across many publications. They are more than legit.
Media Circus in Frisco
The amount of attention the El Paso Eastwood-Plano game received on Thursday was good and bad at the same time. Arriving at the Ford Center was a zoo. The amount of media on hand was unfathomable for a non-district regular season game. I appreciate the gravity and importance of the situation that the game was being played under, but 90 percent of the people there with credentials did not particularly care for the game, but really there for the wrong/right reasons. Under any other circumstances, that game has - at most - two media people.
