Lovejoy Primed for 7-5A District Crown
Lucas Lovejoy has not celebrated a district title since going 7-1 in 10-5A play in 2014. Since then, Lovejoy has finished either second or tied for second in three of the last four year, including last season. The 2019 season shapes up to be Lovejoy's year with 11 returning starters and 32 lettermen returning, including wideout Luke Mayfield, lineman Tyler Beidleman and linebacker Austin King. RW Rucker is penciled in as the quarterback this year and will resume his free safety role after earning All-District last season.
Head coach Chad Cole took Frisco Reedy to the regional finals and a 13-1 record last year with a senior-laden team. However, only six starters return in 2019 - two on offense, four on defense - and just 16 lettermen. An infusion of talent from the JV team will help, but it's not impossible to think Reedy takes a step back this year. Will Harbour is the do-everything athlete that will need lead the Lions this year.
Frisco has a new coach but veteran leadership with 13 starters returning from a team that made it to the second round and finished 6-2 in district play last year. The ground game is how Frisco prefers to run its offense and with four players back that combined for more than 2,100 yards, it'll be relied upon this year again. With nine starters returning in 2019, including linebacker Aaron Taylor, Frisco will have the pieces to make another playoff berth.
Chad Rogers has 15 starters back from last year's Denison team that narrowly missed out on the playoffs. 2019 should be a different story as his team is a year older and brings up some good talent through the ranks. Jadarian Prince is back at running back and could easily surpass his freshman campaign of 1,400 yards and 16 rushing scores. The duo of Keleon Vaughn and Zaelin Wimbish bring back 11 total interceptions to lead a hungry Denison defense.
