VYPE U: Cedar Park Girls Advance to 3rd Round of Playoffs behind Hayes, Maul

On Friday night, the Lady Timberwolves of Cedar Park High School advanced to the 3rd round of the Texas High School Girls Basketball Playoffs after a 70-42 route of the New Caney Eagles at Hearne High School.

The Wolves were led by freshman phenom Gisella Maul who dropped 19points and sophomore standout Shelby Hayes, who finished with 13 points.

To go along with the two underclassmen stars, senior guard Hanna Wheeler also added 3three-pointers, capping her night off at 11points.

The Lady Wolves started off fast, opening the game 4-0 after a few fast break opportunities opened up after a pair of New Caney turnovers. CP continued to run the score up through transition, but the Lady Eagles responded by shooting lights out behind 5'10" senior Abigail Lynch, who led the Eagles with 8 three-pointers on the night.

The first half ended with a score of 43-22 in favor of the T-Wolves, and Coach Ott and company didn't hesitate to go just as hard in the second half knowing that New Caney had the potential to shoot their way back into the game at any point. Wheeler stayed hot from the three-point line in the second, and Maul continued to throttle the Eagles on fast breaks, racking up lay-up after lay-up.

When the final buzzer rang, the Cedar Park Lady Timberwolves arose Area Champions and continued on to the 3rd round of the playoffs to face Magnolia West for the second time in 3 years. Coach Ott and Cedar Park are now 31-3, looking to advance to the Regional Semifinals with a matchup against the 30-8 Magnolia West Lady Mustangs.
