THE POWER RANKINGS: Dripping Springs solidifies hold on Austin area softball standings

Top-ranked Dripping Springs took advantage of their district Bye week to overpower next door neighbor Fredericksburg and remained atop this week’s Softball Power Rankings. There was plenty of churn behind them, however. Weiss knocked off Georgetown and flip-flopped with the Lady Eagles on the podium while Hendrickson and Leander swept their opponents to round out the Top 5.

East View swept Elgin to bypass Liberty Hill and rise to #6. Bowie stayed put at #8 while Hutto moved up a spot after winning both games last week, including a victory over Vista Ridge who slipped to #10.

Round Rock remained at #11 and Hays moved up to #12 (and may actually be better than that). It gets messy after that as teams pop into the bottom of the Rankings and can’t seem to stay there. Gateway Prep remains the only 4A club after slipping to #13 while Westlake clings to the standings at #15, primarily because other teams that might replace them all lost as well. In between them, Glenn emerged at #14 – for now.

A week ahead of baseball, softball squads are heading down the backstretch of their district schedules with playoffs on the horizon. Here’s how they stand as we move into late March.
