VYPE 411: McAllen's Lexi Gonzalez

Lexi Gonzalez recently won the All-Valley Class 6A Female Athlete of the Year Award. She has a verbal commitment to Oregon State to play volleyball and was selected to the TASCO all-state first team.

VYPE caught up with Gonzalez, who was recently voted the VYPE South TX girls soccer player of the year.

VYPE: Who has been your biggest influence in your sporting life? And Why?

GONZALEZ: My mom, she motivates me to be my best whenever I step on the court or field. Without her, I wouldn't be the person I am today!

VYPE: What has been your greatest HS memory so far?

GONZALEZ: At sweet 16, (the last game) the ref blew the whistle to call it game and we advanced to state. We were all so excited!

VYPE: What's your biggest strength? Or What do you bring to your team?

GONZALEZ: I like to bring a lot of positive energy to the team.

VYPE: What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?

GONZALEZ: In 5 years, I see myself playing professional soccer! I hope my dream will come true!

VYPE: What advice would you give a younger athlete starting his/her HS career?

GONZALEZ: Keep working hard and believe in yourself. Make a list of goals that you want to accomplish as an athlete.

VYPE: What do you do outside of sports?

GONZALEZ: I do a lot of strength and conditioning, tutoring, try to hang out with my friends whenever I get a chance! Playing sports is basically my life.
