VYPE U Behind the Lens: George Ranch Makes History at 6A Track & Field Regionals

George Ranch showed up at the Region III 6A Track and Field meet. The following athletes are advancing to the 6A State Meet in Austin, Texas: Shane Gardner (11) for the 110-meter Hurdles, Bryce McCray (12) for the boy's 300-meter hurdles, Alexis Tilford-Rutherford (12) for the girl's Long and Triple jump, Taylor Reeves (11) for girl's pole vault, the boy's 4x400 and the 4x200 meter relay races, and lastly Skylar Herrera (10) for the wheelchair 100m, 400m, and shotput.

This is the first time in George Ranch history for not only one, but three girls to advance to State in a field event. Here's a look into the action brought by the Longhorns at the regional meet!

Skylar Herrera (10) shotputs 10'11 to place second in the girl's wheelchair shotput competition which advances her to the 6A State meet representing George Ranch.

Shane Gardner (11) places 8th in the Region III high jump competition with a final height of 6'2.

The George Ranch girl's 4x100m race places sixth in the Region III with a final time of 47.78. The relay included Genesis Griffin (10), Alexis Tilford-Rutherford (12), Gabriela Ayiteyfio (12), and Journie Franklin (9).

Jacob Curtis (12) places tenth in Region III with a final time of 2:00.29.

​Shane Gardner (11) places third in the Region III 110-meter hurdle race with a final time of 14.01. Gardner had the fastest third-place time against all other regions, sending Gardner State-bound due to the wild card for the 6A State meet.

Gabriela Ayiteyfio (12) places fifth in the Region III girl's 100-meter dash with a final time of 12.19.

Skylar Herrera (10) sets a new personal and school record for the 100-meter wheelchair race with a final time of 22.68. Herrera placed second to advance her to the 6A State meet.

The 6A top 3 finishers for the girl's 6A pole vault competition. In third is Lauren Reed of Stratford with a jump of 11'06", second and qualifying for State is Taylor Reeves of George Ranch with a height of 11'6, and in the first place is Olivia Lueking of Clear Creek with a new personal, school, and regional record of 14'3.

George Ranch 4x400M relay runs the top three times in the nation and wins the Region III Champ with a time of 3:14.94. Relay members are the following: Bryce McCray (12), Cameron Chretien (12), Grant Celestine (12), and Coy Cook (11).
