The Jack Yates Lions (8-3; 7-1 in district) are back and looking dangerous. Coach Jason Lewis and the “Third Ward” squad are poised to run the table in District 11-4A-DI behind the return of Offensive MVP Chris Brown. The dynamic quarterback passed for 30 touchdowns and ran for 17 more in 2024. His top targets include first-team wideout Joshua “JD” Wallace and rising playmaker Edward Shinall, while the line is anchored by Tristian Gadison. On defense, Derick Wolford is a physical force at linebacker and can make plays on both sides of the ball. Lamar Smith is a versatile safety who can also flip to wideout, and tackling machines McKinley Davis and Da’Moreion Thompson add muscle in the middle.
The Wheatley Wildcats (6-5; 5-3) are tough, well-coached, and built around a trio of Dorseys. Coach Cornelius McFarland continues to maximize his squad’s potential, led by Peter Dorsey, the District Newcomer of the Year who recorded 10 sacks as a freshman. Junior Vincent Dorsey led the team in both rushing and tackles, while Larry Dorsey locks down the secondary. It’s no wonder the motto is: “In Dorsey Wheatley Trusts.”
The Furr Brahmans made the playoffs in 2024 and now welcome new head coach Marqueston Huff, who replaces long-time coach Cornell Gray (now at powerhouse North Shore). Huff inherits a strong nucleus, including first-team QB Nick Harris, who returns to lead the Brahmans back into the postseason picture.
The Worthing Colts (11-1; 8-0) have dominated the district over the past two seasons, going 15-0 in district play. But with the graduation of a star-studded senior class—including District MVP Jacory Thurman and Defensive MVP Ernest Brisco—coach Brandon Ellis faces a reload. Still, the bar has been set, and the younger Colts will look to extend the program’s reign at the top.
The North Forest Bulldogs (5-5; 4-4) narrowly missed the playoffs last season and now look to regroup after losing key players, including first-team QB Landon Robertson, who transferred to Humble High. Coach Clifton Terrell must lean on rising talent like Lashun Gray on offense and Justin Whitaker on defense to make a push in 2025.
The Booker T. Washington Eagles (4-6; 3-5) may be the district’s biggest wild card. Versatile athlete Chis’shoun King led the team in receiving and interceptions while also taking snaps at QB. Look for Quiten Powell to be another offensive weapon and Courtney Grant to set the tone defensively.
New coach Nate Gill hopes to build a foundation and get Kashmere into the playoff conversation, while quarterback Jesus Delosreyes returns with hopes of leading Northside to multiple wins. Meanwhile, the Scarborough Spartans turn the page with new head coach Allen Singleton .
