HOUSTON - The record fell in true Jack Yates fashion.
Off a steal, a long heave down the court was too far. Darryl Brown kept it from going out of bounds by tossing it back to Marc-Anthony Batts while mid-air. Batts stopped and jumped up for the two-handed aggressive slam dunk, which brought the crowd, including Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner, to their feet. It came with one minute and 40 seconds left in the third quarter.
"Our crowd is special," Yates coach Greg Wise said. "They back us as well as anybody in the country in terms of being there for us. For them to see that and then for the kids to enjoy it and for us to know we still have some things to do, it felt good."
It's kind of ironic there were 40 seconds on the clock, considering the last time Jack Yates broke this record it had stood for 40 years.
HOUSTON – Whenever a highlight of your play makes it onto ESPN, you know then it was really something special.
Cypress Creek receiver Cogan Derousselle has now experienced that. In fact, his acrobatic catch ended up being selected for Hall of Famer Randy Moss's "You Got Mossed" segment on ESPN.
"I've made big catches, but I can't compare that catch to anything," Derousselle said. "When I caught it, I didn't think about it until I got in the end zone. But when I did, I felt like I wanted it more."
In the video, Derousselle is seen going above and over two defenders to make the catch. Then as they fell to the ground, Derousselle turns and burns to the end zone for the touchdown.
Derousselle finished the game with five receptions for 155 yards and the score.

"I've watched the catch at least 70 times, I'm still trying to process it," Derousselle said. "I work hard on winning the battle against a defensive back. My coach always says "every play is a bar fight, you need to win the bar fight ", so all I worked in all week in practice was winning the battle. It's all about who wants it more."
Outside of football Derousselle is a stand-out track athlete, which does pay off on the football field.
"Track helps with everything I do on the field," Derousselle said. "It helps me think fast and play fast.
