VYPE U: College Park Defeats Conroe; Headed to Playoffs

VYPE U was at Woodforest Stadium on Saturday to witness the epic district showdown between the College Park Cavaliers and the Conroe Tigers. College Park entered with a 5-1 overall record and a 2-0 district record, while Conroe had a 3-3 overall record and a 0-2 district record.

After barely missing the playoffs the past two seasons, the Cavaliers were looking to advance before playing tough district opponents, Oak Ridge and The Woodlands in the upcoming weeks. The boys brought a determined energy to the field and did not look back.

The first quarter began with Conroe quickly taking the lead after a 14 yard run from Jalen Williams. With two minutes remaining, College Park Quarterback Ty Buckmon was able to find Tight End Cody Mladenka for a score. The quarter concluded with a tied score of 7-7.

College Park Defensive Back, Curt Evangelister got the 2nd quarter started after intercepting the Conroe offense. Santos and Payne of Conroe would go on to score during the quarter leaving the Cavaliers trailing 14-17 at half time

During the beginning of the second half, the Cavaliers wasted no time as Junior, Holden Rook rushed 68 yards to give College Park the lead. Conroe compensated when Jordan Thomas scored a 21 yard touchdown to edge the Tigers over the Cavaliers. That was until College Park Wide Receiver, Alex Brigman was able to find the end zone and secure a College Park victory. The final score was 28-24, College Park.

Due to a monumental performance by College Park, they will advance to the playoffs later this season for the first time in three years. This is especially exciting for the College Park community since many members of the team are a part of Coach Madison's first senior class.

Players and fans alike will return to Woodforest Stadium to see the Cavaliers take on the Oak Ridge War Eagles this Friday at 7:00 PM as College Park looks to continue their winning streak.
