After an impressive junior campaign, North Shore 4-star wide receiver Quanell Farrakhan Jr.'s recruitment is starting to heat up.
Farrakhan dropped his Top 3 today -- Nebraska, Texas A&M and Alabama. The Aggies and Tide have made impressive impacts on the wide receiver after offering him in January and having him up on visits over the past month.
Farrakhan took visits to Nebraska, Texas A&M and Alabama before choosing to cut down his schools and focus on the three. Farrakhan talked in depth about why he chose each school.
NEBRASKA
The Huskers offered Farrakhan back in April of last year and the relationship they've built with the star receiver prospect earned them a spot in his Top 3.
"The coaching staff and I have been really tight since they offered me last spring," he said. "That relationship has just evolved over time and they are always checking on me. They always are checking in on me.. 24/7. They actually just texted me before this interview. Just having that relationship to keep building and trust the coaching staff is amazing."
TEXAS A&M
After visiting College Station last month, the rising senior liked the changes he is seeing by Elko and company and thinks they will turn things around in College Station.
"I've always been a big fan of Texas A&M because they are so close to home," Farrakhan said. "I feel like you really can't beat that, an SEC school that's only an hour away... that literally means everything. I feel like A&M is a place that can get me to the next level and I'm very big on the new coaching staff. I think they're really going to turn things around there."
ALABAMA
Similar to Texas A&M, Alabama jumped into Farrakhan's recruitment this offseason offering the talented wideout in the last few weeks of January. The new coaching staff really impressed at his visit this past weekend, which ultimately helped him decide to add them in his Top 3.
"When I took my visit to Alabama, they showed me crazy love," he said. "When I was at the practice facility, all the coaches came up and chopped it up with me. I also got a chance to sit down with Coach Shepard, the wide receiver coach, and Coach DeBoer. Coach DeBoer told me if I came there, they'd get me to the league and that's very important to me."
Farrakhan plans to take official visits to these three schools to help narrow down his decision, but mentioned he also will visit a few other schools as well.
As far as his commitment, Farrakhan plans to commit before the first game of his senior season and had three specific intangibles he will look for before committing.
"For me to commit to a school, I want a coaching staff that's going to be 100-percent honest, knowing that what we are talking about now is how it will be once I get on campus. Development is also important to me, having a school that will have me prepared to succeed at the next level. The last thing is just the relationships, the relationships you have with a staff is what makes you into the person you will become."
The race is on for Nebraska, Texas A&M and Alabama to gain one of the top players in the Greater Houston-area's commitment before August. Expect a big push from all three schools in the coming months.
