It's time to hand out the hardware for Lufkin volleyball.
The Panthers had a handful of award winners with the District 16-5A volleyball awards being released on November 13.
Start with the superlatives. The District Newcomer of the Year honor went to freshman Libby Flores. For the year, Flores finished with 89 kills, 68 aces, five solo blocks, 299 digs and 417 assists. Flores also had a 94.1 serve percentage.
She will be a player to watch for the next three years.
First-team, all-district honors went to sophomore Kelby Coutee, while junior Catera Brown was named to second-team, all-district.
Coutee finished the year with 160 kills and 42 solo blocks, while Brown finished with 25 kills, 35 aces, 124 digs and an 88.5 percent serve rate.
Finally, Courtnee Morgan, who was a freshman this year, earned an honorable mention nod for the all-district squads after recording 143 kills and 62 blocks.
What these awards show is that Lufkin is relatively young and should get even better heading into the 2020 season.
