THE POWER RANKINGS: Top teams tread water, minor movement in middle of Austin-area boys basketball poll
Westwood, Stony Point and Round Rock all swept their opponents this week. While that’s not particularly noteworthy, the scores were: our three Power Rankings leaders routed their district opponents by a rough average score of 77-33 – and it probably could have been worse in some cases.
While the leaders played all district games, the rest of the rankings played a mixture of district, non-district and tournament games, sometimes in the same week. That all contributed to a confusing muddle below the top three.
St. Michael’s from TAPPS swiped a road win at 6A Lake Travis and Liberty Hill bounced back from a loss to win their tournament and round out the Top 5.
This week’s Silver Bullet, the Westlake Chaparrals, took 3-out-of-four in the tough Cy-Hoops Invitational to leapfrog several teams and move up three spots. Lago Vista and East View and Brentwood Christian moved up as well.
By this time everyone next week will have started district play and we’ll finally start to get some clarity. In the meantime, here’s where they stand.
