Summer Creek turns back a fiesty Atascocita Eagle squad
Shakeups hit middle of Class 6A VYPE Top 25; Baytown Sterling moves into 5A Top 10
It was a bloodbath in the middle of the VYPE Class 6A Top 25 this past weekend, as several ranked teams took unexpected hits. Bridgeland, Willis, Klein, Jordan, Atascocita, Kingwood, and Dawson all suffered losses, leaving the playoff picture wide open heading into Week 7.
So, who came out on top?
Pearland made a statement at The Rig, holding off a tough Dawson squad in a back-and-forth district battle. College Park was even more impressive, lighting up the scoreboard with 50 points in a road rout of No. 9 Willis.
In Klein ISD, the upsets kept coming. Klein Oak pulled off a stunner over No. 7 Klein Collins, while Tomball edged Klein in a hard-fought matchup that came down to the wire.
Meanwhile, Summer Creek managed to hang on to its No. 2 ranking after surviving a narrow win over Atascocita in another high-scoring shootout. Saturday, Cypress Springs had a signature win over Bridgeland to take poll position for the district title.
And say hello to Baytown Sterling. The Rangers delivered one of the weekend’s biggest surprises, knocking off No. 5 Barbers Hill behind the leadership of first-year head coach Spencer Anthony, who has quickly raised the standard for the program.
Houston’s 6A scene just got a whole lot more interesting.

THE RANKINGS: Randle, Klein Collins, CE King steal show in Week 5
HOUSTON – Week 5 of the high school football season brought some heavyweight clashes across the Houston area, shaking up the landscape as teams push deeper into district play.
It all began under the lights of the VYPE Thursday Night Showdown powered by the Daspit Law Firm, where Class 5A No. 1 Randle outlasted No. 3 Iowa Colony in a 49-42 thriller. The defending state champions proved their pedigree in an instant classic, trading blows before sealing a statement win that reaffirms their top billing.
In Klein ISD, the showdown between unbeatens did not disappoint. Klein Collins edged rival Klein Bearkats 36-30, vaulting the Tigers to No. 7 in the city rankings.
Meanwhile, No. 11 CE King put on an offensive showcase, stunning Atascocita 70-55. Running back Dionne Sims, a Tulsa commit, exploded for a monster night, proving nearly unstoppable out of the backfield.
Elsewhere in 6A, Dawson delivered drama, knocking off Shadow Creek in a double-overtime thriller to earn a spot in this week’s rankings. Nimitz also climbs into the Top 20 after an impressive start.
The 5A slate had its own fireworks. Montgomery toppled Dayton in a Top 10 matchup, while Santa Fe and Kingwood Park also earned spots in the latest poll after strong performances.
On the private school scene, Concordia Lutheran has surged into the Top 5. The Crusaders continue to roll, while perennial power Episcopal has slipped after another tough loss.
With Week 6 looming, the Houston football picture is starting to come into focus—but as last weekend showed, nothing is set in stone.
