Taylor Dailey has the need… the need for speed.

The Fort Bend Christian cross-country star returns for her senior season with her eyes set on a TAPPS state title. She finished seventh overall in 2018.

"I've been running all year long and with coaches throughout the summer," she said. "I was able to get in some great mileage before the season. In cross country, you combine different types of workouts. I get up early and either do a long run or time trial. Then do some speed work, followed by core workouts to get my overall body stronger."

She has shaved 20 seconds since last season, so her hard work is paying off.

"I really got into the sport in the seventh grade, when I would run with my mom before school," she said. "I tried out for almost every sport at my school and didn't make any. When I tried out for track, I set our middle school record. From there I thought, 'hey, I'm pretty good at running.'"

She has visions of running in college and will be officially visiting Pepperdine in weeks to come, while also hearing from Santa Clara.

If running wasn't enough, Dailey has another life-long passion.

"I'm a competitive horseback rider and that takes up a lot of my weekends," she said. "I've been on a horse since I was three and riding competitively since seven. My aunt got us into it, and I found I really have a passion for the sport. I love building the relationship with my horse."

At area competitions, Dailey can be found racing "Magnolia" around arenas.

"I've always done English and jumping," she said. "I've really gotten into jumping after winning several events. It's fast and pretty dangerous, but when I'm riding in that arena, it's a high."

So, which is it? Cross country or horse racing?

"I get a high from running as well and love being on a team and pushing myself," she laughs. "I can't really pick a favorite."
