Lewisville quarterback Laykon Brassfield (10) celebrates after Lewisville beats Flower Mound Marcus on Sept. 25.
Ahead of a showdown with Flower Mound set for Oct. 23, Lewisville quarterback Laykon Brassfield won his appeal with the UIL.
In Austin, UIL officials met Oct. 22, dealing with four eligibility appeals, and the Fighting Farmers learned they can play the Edmond North transfer again.
The Oklahoma transfer led the Farmers to a 3-0 start to the season, before the District 5-6A District Executive Committee ruled him ineligible over residency concerns on Sept. 25.
The DEC voted 5-2 that Brassfield not move for athletic purposes, but voted 7-0 that Brassfield did not meet the criteria to be a resident in Lewisville ISD or Lewisville High School, according to previous VYPE DFW reporting.
The junior has completed 74% of his passes this year, throwing for 742 yards with 13 touchdowns and 1 interception. He’s also run for 124 yards and 2 scores for the Farmers.
In his absence, the Farmers have won all four games and technically are undefeated this season on the field. As of Thursday afternoon, it is unclear if those previously vacated wins will return for the team. Lewisville is 3-0 in district play, tied with Denton Braswell for first place.
The Fighting Farmers have three games left in the regular season. Friday against 7-1 Flower Mound, then a home game vs. Braswell and closes on the road at Little Elm on Nov. 5.
The Brassfield presented updated documentation showing it had fully consolidated into a roughly 1,200-square-foot Lewisville apartment. Brassfield’s younger siblings had also been withdrawn from Argyle ISD.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Brassfield’s two younger brothers were enrolled at Argyle ISD, which Brassfield’s father, Jonathan, testified was bought for Laykon’s grandfather in the DEC meeting.
Jonathan Brassfield said he unenrolled his two younger sons at Argyle ISD after questions were raised and the family is living in an apartment in Lewisville. At the appeal, his father told UIL the family has moved into a bigger apartment in Lewisville.
