EPISCOPAL KNIGHTS (SPC-4A BOYS & GIRLS CHAMPIONS)

2024-25 Episcopal Girls Track & Field
Bradley C. Collier (VYPE)
Episcopal High’s track and field program turned in a commanding performance at the SPC Championships this past weekend, held at the Awty Sports Complex in Houston. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams showcased their dominance, securing team titles in emphatic fashion.
Led by Head Coach Isaiah Coleman, the Episcopal boys’ team claimed their third straight SPC title with a final score of 193.5—more than 50 points ahead of runner-up Kinkaid. The girls’ team was just as impressive, capturing their second consecutive championship with a staggering 226.5 points, outpacing St. John’s by over 80 points.
Among the standout performances, DeVonte “DJ” Taylor II delivered one of the most remarkable individual showings of the meet, striking gold in five individual events: the 100m Dash, 110m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles, Long Jump, and Triple Jump. He also contributed to Episcopal’s victory in the 4x100m Relay.
On the girls’ side, Mary Taylor led the charge with gold medal finishes in the 100m Hurdles, Long Jump, and Triple Jump. She also earned silver in the 300m Hurdles and bronze in the High Jump, highlighting her versatility and consistency.
Additional contributions came from a deep roster of talented athletes including Tennessee Galbreth, Travis Johnson II, Ryder Linebarger, Josh Johnson, and Rodney Thomas II for the boys, and Sophia Cormier, Ariana White, Meg Billipp, Georgia Bass, Kamille Bishop, Ryan Fox, and Emilia Sanchez for the girls.
With such a dominant showing, Episcopal has once again solidified its reputation as a powerhouse in SPC track and field.
FORT WORTH COUNTRY DAY (SPC-3A BOYS CHAMPIONS)

Fort Worth Country Day’s boys track & field team etched their names into school history this past weekend by capturing their first-ever SPC championship title.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Jared Connaughton, the Falcons delivered a performance defined by depth, determination, and teamwork at the SPC Championships held at the Awty Sports Complex in Houston.
FWCD finished with a commanding score of 178 points—20 clear of runner-up John Cooper—securing a long-awaited championship for the program.
Central to the Falcons’ success was their outstanding relay unit, which showcased both speed and consistency across multiple events.
Contributors including Canaan Factor, Diego Hatcher, Jordan Jones, Owen Bloemendal, Cal Neubauer, William Runyon, Dario Rosas, Chuy Orozco, and Ty Williams played critical roles in amassing key points through the relays.
Individually, Owen Bloemendal led the charge with a gold medal in the 200m Dash, a silver in the 100m Dash, and a bronze in the Long Jump—demonstrating impressive range and poise across sprint and field events.
Additional key performances came from Diego Hatcher, Cal Neubauer, Nate Blan, Kai Chancellor, and Jackson Bloemendal, whose contributions helped round out a deep and balanced roster.
With this milestone victory, the Falcons not only raised the bar for the program’s future but also signaled their arrival as a new force in SPC track and field.
AWTY INTERNATIONAL RAMS (SPC-3A GIRLS CHAMPIONS)

The Awty International School girls’ track & field team delivered a landmark performance this past weekend, capturing their first-ever SPC Championship—and doing so in commanding fashion on their home track.
Led by Head Coach Ryan Harlan, the Rams dominated the competition, finishing with a team total of 182 points, more than 40 points ahead of second-place Fort Worth Country Day.
From start to finish, the Awty girls showcased exceptional depth and determination. Leading the charge was Liesl Sercu, who turned in a standout performance by claiming gold in both the 400m Dash and High Jump, and adding a silver medal in the 200m Dash.
The success extended to the relay events, where the Rams’ 4x400m team—featuring Sercu, Kari Sparrock, Alexandria Johnson, Indigo Mouton, Aanya Gautam, and Abby Roux—earned the top podium spot. That same core group also secured a bronze medal in the 4x800m relay, adding valuable points to the team’s historic total.
Contributions poured in across the board, with key performances from Romy Bignon, Elle Williams, Leila Sholokhova, Amelia Williams, and Austin Lloyd, helping to solidify Awty’s championship run.
In a season already filled with strong performances, this dominant showing marks a defining moment for the Rams’ program—and sets a high standard for the future.

FW Country Day's Canaan Factor
JACK OF ALL TRADES: Factor sees his stock rising as a tri-sport athlete for FW Country Day
At Fort Worth Country Day School, few student-athletes juggle as much as junior Canaan Factor—and even fewer do it as well.
A rare three-sport competitor, Factor has excelled on the football field, basketball court, and now in spring track and field, showing no signs of slowing down.
His year-round athletic schedule reads like a blueprint for consistency and discipline, with each season bringing new opportunities—and new accolades.
This fall, Factor earned All-SPC honors and was named SPC-3A Wide Receiver of the Year, anchoring a high-powered Falcons offense.
Just months later, he capped off the winter basketball season by earning the team’s MVP award and another All-SPC selection.

And now, he’s back at it—this time on the track—competing in sprints, jumps, and relays for FWCD as they head into the SPC Spring Championship Meet this Saturday.
With all that on his plate, it’s fair to wonder when Factor ever has time to rest.
“That’s definitely what it seems like,” Factor said with a laugh. “But in all honesty, there are a lot of benefits because it helps me to become a more well-rounded athlete overall. Growing up, I would always play whatever sport was in season, and I never really outgrew that. It’s difficult to just give up on any one sport, so I like to think that my favorite one is whichever I’m playing at the time.”
While he enjoys each sport, football remains his long-term focus.
Factor hopes to play at the collegiate level and has already taken steps toward that goal. Last summer, he attended camps at TCU and Trinity, and this June, he plans to train at Georgetown, Princeton, and Tulsa, just to name a few.
Standing at 6-foot-2, Factor possesses the physical traits to succeed at the next level. As both a wide receiver and a defensive back, his length and strength set him apart. But he believes it’s another attribute that gives him a unique edge.
“Obviously, speed kills at the receiver position,” he said. “But I think one thing that helps to make me stand apart would be my ability to jump. Basketball has really helped me with that, because of the constant repetition in games and practice. I’ve gotten my vertical up to about 37 inches now, so that’s provided me with something of an edge on the field.”

That explosiveness has also translated well to track and field. Factor competes in the High Jump, Long Jump, 100m Dash, 200m Dash, and 4x100m Relay—showcasing not just his versatility but his willingness to push himself in new ways.
Throughout his athletic journey, two key influences stand out.
“The first one that comes to mind is definitely my Dad,” Factor said. “In terms of staying on me, pushing me to compete, and literally doing everything he possibly can to help me succeed, he’s been the one.”
“Another person would be my track coach, Coach (Jared) Connaughton. He’s the type of guy who knows everything about the human body and how to train. He was an Olympian, and he understands what it takes to excel at the next level. Both of them have had a tremendous impact on me and my drive as an athlete.”
Reflecting on his growth over three years at FWCD, Factor points to a shift that’s happened more internally than physically.
“Above all else, I feel that I’ve gotten better at managing my stress levels in each sport,” he said. “Confidence is key in most aspects of life, and I think that’s what I’ve improved on the most. It’s not uncommon to have pre-game or pre-meet butterflies in your stomach. But the more you do it, the more comfortable you get with that level of adversity. I was terrified as a freshman. But now, I’ve been able to overcome that feeling.”
He has yet to receive a formal offer at the next level—whether in football or track—but with his resume and relentless work ethic, it may only be a matter of time.
Until then, Canaan Factor will keep doing what he does best: competing.
