Year In Review: VYPE Austin's Top 10 2018-2019 UIL Teams

The 2018-2019 athletic calendar has concluded, so VYPE Austin will have a series dedicated to notable performers and moments over the past year. We kick it off with the area's top 10 UIL teams.

No. 1: 2018-2019 Westlake Boys Golf

The Chaparrals' boys golf program sent two teams to UIL state, and earned gold and bronze medals at the year's final 6A tournament.

No. 2: 2018-2019 Westlake Girls Golf

The Chaparrals' girls golf program advanced two teams to UIL state, and finished first and eighth at the season's final 6A event.

No. 3: 2018-2019 Georgetown Boys Swimming

The Eagles finished the season on top because five of their eight UIL 5A state championship medals were gold.

No. 4: 2018 Mason Football

The Punchers outscored their 2018 opponents by a combined 711-109 score, so they finished their UIL 2A Division I state championship season with a perfect 16-0 record.

No. 5: 2018 Fredericksburg Team Tennis

The Battlin' Billies won their second UIL state championship since 2015, advanced to their fourth UIL state final four since 2014, and finished the year with a 19-5 record.

No. 6: 2019 Mason Tennis

At UIL 2A state, Punchers' athletes recorded the top two finishes in boys doubles, girls doubles and mixed doubles, recorded another win in boys singles, and added another runner-up finish in girls singles.

No. 7: 2019 Milano Boys Track

The Eagles won three of the six UIL 2A state track events that they medaled in to claim the season's top prize.

No. 8: 2018 San Saba Girls Cross Country

The Armadillos earned the UIL 2A state championship because Kaleigh Ellis finished second and Brighton Adams added a sixth-place finish.

No. 9: 2019 Thorndale Softball

The 33-6 Lady Dogs won their first 11 postseason games, and advanced to UIL state for the first time, but fell to Crawford in an eight-inning UIL 2A state championship thriller.

No. 10: 2018-2019 Liberty Hill Boys Basketball

The 34-7 Panthers used a buzzer beater to upset Decatur in the UIL 4A state semifinal, but their season came to an end when Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy made a last second dunk against them in the state final.
