Coronado leaning on its previous success in return to 7-on-7 state tournament

Summer sports for high school athletes tend to be a casual way to make sure skills stay sharp, maybe with some team-bonding blended in for good measure.

That's not exactly the approach Coronado takes with 7-on-7 football, particularly with the current team that has constructed ever-raising expectations heading into each new season.

"There's no substitution for competition, so any time we go out on the field and have a chance to compete, we're going to take it," junior quarterback Sawyer Robertson said. "Some teams go out and run specific 7-on-7 stuff just to run it, but we run our offense because we want to get better every day and that helps the connection develop between me and the receivers."
