PREVIEW: Prosper Volleyball looks toward strong season

Prosper volleyball has been itching for a state title for a while. With a great season ahead, could this year be exactly what they’re looking for? VYPE DFW takes a look at what’s to come and what fans can expect from the Lady Eagles this fall.

REWIND

After finishing fourth in their district during the 2021-22 season, the team really stepped up their game last season with a 15-0 undefeated district record. Defeating the likes of usual state competitor Lucas Lovejoy to open up their season, the team knew they were special from the get-go. Through district play, the Lady Eagles posted victory after victory over Prosper Rock Hill (3-0), Little Elm (3-0), McKinney Boyd (3-0), Allen (3-0), Denton Guyer (3-1), and more en route to playoffs.

Through playoffs, Prosper took out Flower Mound Marcus (3-1), Lake Highlands (3-1), Plano West (3-1), and Fort Worth Boswell (3-0) with what looked like could be a state championship push. The team fell in a hard-fought 3-1 loss to Keller to end their season.

LOOKING AHEAD

Although the team has many youngsters rejoining, they also have quite a few upperclassman leaders in athletes like liber Sophie Bridges, Riley McFarland, Audrey Hunt, Camilla Cox, Hanna Beauford, and more. With seasoned athletes, Prosper is prepared to be one of the top 6A volleyball teams in the metroplex this season.

The team opened its schedule against a strong Frisco Independence squad and came out on top with a 3-0 victory. After a 3-0 loss to Wylie, it didn't take long for the Lady Eagles to get back on track and learn from their moments on the court. Defeating the likes of Arlington Martin (3-0), Grapevine (3-0), and Frisco Wakeland (3-1) this preseason, Prosper is off to a strong start. Through district play, Prosper can easily be expected to be one of the favorites in their district— if not THE favorite. On the hunt for more, the Lady Eagles have what it takes to make a state title push this season. Their next preseason matchup will be against Frisco Liberty during a tournament on Friday, August 17th. Be sure you catch these ladies in action!
