Port Arthur Memorial isn't just bringing back considerable talent – they’re bringing back motivation. Following an 8-4 finish last fall, highlighted by a 70-0 rout of Galena Park in the opening round of the playoffs, the Titans saw their season end in a narrow 36-29 loss to eventual State Semifinalist Angleton. That taste of what could’ve been is now fueling a senior-heavy squad determined to take the next step. When it comes to the rushing attack, the Titans feature a dynamic duo in the backfield with first-team, all-district standout Amante Martin and second-team selection Alex Eugene. Martin, a three-star recruit with offers from Houston, TCU, and Kentucky, headlines a ground game few defenses will want to face. Meanwhile, senior wideout Keavon Roberts (Houston-commit) is expected to take on a larger role after the departure of Semaj Pierre (Rice). Up front, the offense is anchored by senior tackle Michael Milson, another first-team pick whose college interest includes Baylor, Kansas, and Houston. Though, what makes this team so dangerous is the fact that the defense is just as loaded. Linebacker Tai’Yion “Tank” King, a four-star recruit and Texas A&M-commit, returns as a game-changing presence in the middle. He’s joined by veteran playmakers like Quarmaine Garlington and versatile DB/ATH Brock King, who also holds offers from across the Power Five landscape. With experience, size, and speed at nearly every position, Port Arthur Memorial prepares for the year with a clear goal: finish what they started.
Amid a culture shift, Barbers Hill enters the 2025 campaign aiming to build on last year’s 8-4 result and make a deeper postseason run. First-year head coach Cody Simper, fresh off a successful stint at Cy Woods, takes over a roster loaded with athleticism and playmaking ability on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Eagles will lean on junior wideout Kaegan Morton to lead the charge after a breakout season in which he totaled 841 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns en route to first-team, all-district honors. In the backfield, junior tailback Gabriel Howard (second-team) returns following a productive season with nearly 800 rushing yards and 10 scores. Perhaps the most significant offseason addition is at quarterback. Senior Brady Barrier, a McNeese State-commit, transferred in from Anahuac and brings a dual-threat presence after accounting for 24 total touchdowns a year ago. With veteran wideouts Colby Morgan and Garner Poole also in the mix, the Eagles' passing attack could reach new heights. On defense, Barbers Hill brings back leadership and explosiveness. Senior linebacker Carson Hahn, a first-team, all-district selection, returns as the unit’s anchor, while defensive lineman Trae Clark – the reigning 9-5A-DI Defensive Newcomer of the Year – provides strength in the trenches. Furthermore, junior nose guard Bryce Jackson (second-team) and senior DB Daylon Smith round out a solid core. Also, it doesn’t hurt that the Eagles have a dependable kicker in Anthony Castillo (second-team). With a blend of returning talent and fresh energy, don’t be surprised if Barbers Hill doesn’t miss a step this fall.
Despite graduating a wave of key playmakers, Galveston Ball approaches this season with reasonably high expectations and a new voice at the helm. First-year coach Omasha Brantley, formerly the offensive coordinator at Clear Springs, inherits a program that finished 9–3 last year and reached the Area Round before a narrow playoff loss to A&M Consolidated. While the departures of District MVP Jonah Williams (Texas), quarterback Kyden Barker (transferred to Clear Falls), and other all-district talents leave some offensive holes, the Tornadoes aren’t necessarily starting from scratch. Senior WR Juwaan Woodbury (first-team, all-district) returns as the centerpiece after racking up more than 1,200 all-purpose yards and 12 touchdowns a year ago. The protection will remain steady up front, thanks to senior lineman Josiah Evans, another first-team, all-district honoree. Defensively, linebacker Cameron Thomas provides veteran instincts and physicality in the middle. Brantley’s first challenge will be retooling the offense and developing new contributors — but with a few explosive pieces still in place, the Tornadoes remain a threat in 2025.
After years of falling short, Lufkin delivered a breakthrough in 2024 – capturing a district title, reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2020, and ending the season with an impressive 10-2 record. Now, with the introduction of former Barbers Hill HC Carl Abseck, the Panthers will look to reestablish themselves as contenders in emphatic fashion. Still, expectations heading into this year are tempered by the departure of several key contributors. Much like Galveston Ball, Lufkin faces the challenge of replacing a large chunk of its offensive and defensive firepower. That said, counting the Panthers out would be a mistake. Back to propel the attack is senior running back Kenneth Waters, a first-team, all-district selection known for his burst and vision. He’ll run behind a solid O-Line, highlighted by senior tackle Justus Daniels, also a first-team honoree. On the other side of the ball, senior cornerback Keshawn Waters returns to help stabilize a unit undergoing transition. Lufkin may have lost some stars, but the foundation remains strong – and the Panthers have every intention of proving last season was no fluke.
While West Brook finished just outside the playoff picture in 2024 with a 4–6 record, the improvement under head coach Chuck Langston is hard to ignore. After struggling in recent seasons, the Bruins are trending upward – and 2025 could mark another step forward. Junior signal-caller Tam Anderson returns after being named the district’s Offensive Newcomer of the Year. A true dual threat, Anderson rushed for 856 yards and 11 touchdowns, while looking to improve through the air after a mixed passing season. He’ll be protected by senior lineman Devin Nabors, a second-team, all-district selection. Defensively, West Brook features key returners in junior defensive end Kailon Walker and senior linebacker Chris Landry, both second-team honorees. Senior kicker Dylan Purnell – a first-team, all-district pick – rounds out a promising special teams unit. With more experience and talent returning, West Brook looks ready to compete.
Like many other programs in the 9-5A-DI outlook, Beaumont United prepares for the fall under new leadership, with Drenard Williams taking over as head coach. A former associate head coach at Austin LBJ, Williams inherits a Timberwolves program coming off a 3–7 campaign that also saw them finish sixth in district play. Despite last season’s struggles, there’s a solid core returning. Senior Ashton Henry, a first-team, all-district utility player, offers versatility and explosiveness on offense. When it comes to the defense, senior linebacker Christerpher Norman and junior Quan Andrews bring physicality in the middle, while senior cornerback Jonas Badger anchors the secondary – with all three of them having earned second-team honors a year ago. Though some growing pains are to be expected, the Timberwolves hope to take meaningful strides in the coming months.
Baytown Sterling will look to turn the page in 2025 under new head coach Spencer Anthony, who takes over after serving as defensive coordinator across town at Baytown Lee. The Rangers finished 3–7 last season and struggled in district play but return several experienced seniors. Quarterback Jackson Favors leads the offense alongside running back Elijah Lewis and versatile playmaker Christopher Harris Jr. On defense, Reid Butler, Aiden Wallace, and Adrian Perez bring senior leadership up front. With a new voice and veteran core, Sterling hopes to reset the tone this fall.

Lamar is a perennial playoff program. The Texans enter 2025 coming off an 8-4 campaign and seek to reach the playoffs for a 26th-straight year in 2025. Lamar returns nine starters for eighth-year head coach Michael Lindsey (56-20). RB Larry Sanders is coming off a 503-yard season with five scores. He racked up 932 all-purpose yards. OL Jayden Cook will be the leader in the trenches for the Texans. Defensively, first-team, all-district picks DB Robert McFarland (37 tackles, 3 INT) and DB Prince Washington (31 tackles, 1 INT, 7 PBUs) will hold down the secondary. Other players to watch include DE Martin Davis-Wheatfall (48 tackles, 4 sacks, 10 TFL), WR JaCarsten Landor (332 yards, 3 TD) and RB Deverick Stone-Hubbard (363 yards, 4 TD).
...
Bellaire finished third in District 18-6A play a year ago after posting a 4-2 mark in district play. The Cardinals’ two district losses came to Lamar and Heights. Bellaire made the playoffs and reached the Bi-District round. The Cardinals go for a third-straight playoff appearance in 2025, which would mark their longest playoff streak since doing it in the 2015-2017 seasons. The Cardinals return first-team, all-district quarterback Will Hazen who passed for 1,144 yards and 15 touchdowns. One of his top targets, Tony Miller – a first-team, all-district receiver – returns after reeling in 20 catches for 284 yards and eight touchdowns. Second-team, all-district running back Chance Diebner returns after 287 yards and three scores a year ago, second-team receiver Cameron Johnson (223 yards, 2 TDs) and second-team kicker Cole McLean are also back. Defensively, Marshall Smith (45 tackles, 4 sacks) and Kris Connor (35 tackles, 4 sacks) return on the defensive line after second-team, all-district performances in 2024. Defensive back Bishop Jones (28 tackles, 3 INTs) is also set to return. Jones was second-team, all-district along with deep snapper Jonathan Blum.
...
Heights went 8-4 in 2024 and reached the Area Round of the playoffs before falling to Strake Jesuit. The Bulldogs were senior heavy last year and will have to replace District Offensive MVP Zaylen Cormier and Defensive MVP Dylan Ray. Heights will have to rely on new names to make another run at the playoffs. The Bulldogs return second-team, all-district QB Kobe Miles, who passed for 1,508 yards and 20 touchdowns last season. RB Corian Jacobs is also set to return after rushing for 405 yards and seven touchdowns. Jacobs also reeled in 16 receptions for 268 yards and three scores. Defensively, OLB Joseph Chavez, a second team all-district pick, is back after registering 35 tackles and one sack.
...
Chavez took a step forward in 2024 in winning two games – victories over Sam Houston Math and Science (23-6) and Wisdom (47-20) – to improve on their winless campaign in 2023. The Lobos bring back first-team, all-district selections in WR Johntta Thomas, OL Manuel Miller Jr. and TE Jeremiah Villarreal. Thomas finished with 781 yards and 10 touchdowns to lead the Lobos receiving corps. On the defensive side, Miller was also selected as a second-team, all-district defensive lineman after registering a team-leading 6.5 sacks and 53 tackles. Another defensive returner is Da'Quan James on the DL. James also earned a second-team nod on the all-district squad after racking up a team-leading 64 tackles and four sacks.
...
Westside went 3-8 a year ago and reached the Bi-District round of the playoffs. Third-year coach Cedric Allen returns 10 starters to the mix, with six on the defensive side. Players to watch include DE Brandon Doyle (first-team, all-district), OLB Michael White (first-team, all-district), ILB Torrien Clark (first-team, all-district), QB Dylin White (second-team, all-district), OL Kenden Bailey, OL Calvin Miller and S Richard Bailey.
...
Wisdom looks to bounce back from a 3-7 campaign in 2024 that saw the Generals win just one district game, which came against Sam Houston Math and Science. Wisdom returns a handful of all-district talent, including first-team OL Juan Alvear. Defensively, they bring back first-teamers in ILB Jamaroquie Haire and DB Marcus Wells. First-team, all-district punter Joshua Salinas is also set to return.
...
Houston Math and Science posted a 1-9 overall record and went winless in district play a year ago. The Tigers are set to return second-team, all-district tight end/halfback Jaylean Salgado and second-team WR Adrian Hernandez. Defensively, first-team, all-district OLB Jalean Salgado and second-team, all-district OLB Treshaun White are set to return.

Coming off a strong 9-3 campaign in 2024, the Cypress Falls Eagles are looking to take the next step under head coach Chris Brister. After falling to perennial power Katy in the Area Round of the 6A Division I playoffs, Cy Falls returns a veteran core eager to push deeper this fall. On offense, senior RB Gabriel Wilson is set to take center stage. A first-team all-district selection, Wilson ran for 800 yards and four touchdowns last season, while splitting carries with the now graduated Eric Manuel. With offers from Rice, Washington State, and others, Wilson is expected to be the focal point of the attack in 2025. He’ll be joined by fellow senior Brandon Derbigny, an all-district quarterback who brings leadership and big-play ability, as well as ATH Liam Madkins. Up front, second-team lineman Alberto Hernandez returns to anchor the trenches. The defense is just as imposing, led by edge rushers like four-star prospect Kaden McCarty and James Harris – both juniors and first-team, all-district honorees with impressive Division I recruiting interest. The secondary brings experience as well, with seniors Gabe Collins and James Henderson (Rice-commit) bolstering the back end.
...
Cy-Fair returns to the gridiron with unfinished business. After posting a 7-4 record and finishing second in District 17-6A, their postseason run was cut short in a first-round loss to Lamar. But with a solid core of returners and a tradition of physical, disciplined football, the Jeff Miller-led Bobcats are poised to reassert themselves in the 6A playoff picture. Senior wideout Chase Sanders brings a formidable presence offensively. The unanimous first-team, all-district pick is a matchup nightmare at 6-foot-5, combining size and quickness that also make him a standout on the basketball court. He’ll be supported by senior running back Arnell Fontenot and tight end Sebastian Villa—both second-team selections—as well as junior offensive lineman Paola Arellano. On the defensive side, replacing Texas A&M-signee Landon Rink won't be easy, but the Bobcats return plenty of experience. Linebacker Jayce Robinson (first-team) brings leadership and physicality, while the secondary is anchored by senior Jaden Vaughn (second-team) – a three-star recruit with offers from Utah, Yale, and Sam Houston State, among others – alongside fellow second-team honoree Alek Askeroglu. Furthermore, junior OLB Drayton Hawkins is an emerging name to be aware of in the wake of Kaleb Burns’ graduation. With a balanced roster and the usual high expectations, Cy-Fair appears primed to turn last season’s early exit into fuel for a deeper playoff run come November.
Stratford isn’t hitting the reset button in 2025 – they’re hitting the ground running. Head coach Todd Rankin’s squad took bronze in 17-6A prior to reaching the second round of the postseason, where their momentum was halted by Katy Jordan. Despite that result, it isn't a stretch to assume they could potentially have a more extensive run in the near future. Much of Stratford’s offensive identity will start with its line – an experienced unit led by first-team, all-district honorees Foard Polley and Clayton Nonhof, as well as second-teamer Kenny White. Their presence up front should open the door for senior running back Davis Kendall to have a major breakout year. Even in a shared role in the rushing attack last season, Kendall posted over 700 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns. With a larger workload in 2025, he’ll surely be a name to watch. Senior wideout Cody Hanlen also returns as a reliable target. Defensively, the Spartans bring back playmakers at all three levels. Senior cornerback Johnathan Joseph, a first-team selection, is expected to make an impact both in coverage and as a return specialist. Linebacker Jaxson Blundell and defensive end Matthew Bednar round out a front seven that should keep the opponent’s ground game in check.
...
Change is in the air for the Memorial Mustangs as they prepare for this fall with a new leader at the helm. Brooks Haack, a former assistant and offensive coordinator for Randle – the reigning 5A-DII state champions – steps in to replace longtime head coach Gary Koch. Though the Mustangs finished 4-7 last year, a late-season push secured a playoff spot, which serves as proof that the program still has some gas left in the tank. Haack inherits a roster with experience in the right places, particularly in the trenches. Senior offensive linemen Evan Paul and Deven Jagassar return as all-district selections, joined by promising junior Colton Bash. On the outside, junior wideout Ayo Omotosho adds versatility to a group that will benefit from Haack’s offensive background. Flipping over to the defense, Memorial brings back several contributors capable of setting the tone. Senior linebacker Isaac Richardson and defensive back Brett Gulledge were both first-team, all-district honorees in 2024, while junior safety Jackson Van Wie (second-team) also enjoyed a strong campaign. Further bolstering the secondary will also be senior Winston Xu. While some growing pains may be expected, all signs point to Memorial heading in the right direction.
...
Entering his second season, coach Deveon McKinney looks to guide Cypress Creek past last year’s 2-8 result. With a handful of adept veterans back in place, the Cougars have the necessary tools to improve in 2025. Senior running back Garland Wilburn leads the offense after compiling nearly 1,100 all-purpose yards and seven touchdowns last season. Junior QB Kyle Moss showed flashes of promise and is expected to take a step forward. Meanwhile, unanimous first-team, all-district defensive tackle Marlon Cook returns as a dominant presence on the D-Line, after posting 44 tackles, eight tackles for loss, and a team-leading 6.5 sacks a year ago.
...
With Levelle Norris officially taking over as HC last December, Jersey Village will be aiming to turn the page after a 3-7 season in 2024. The team will lean on returning senior talent to spark a resurgence on both sides of the ball. Senior RB Jaden Perkins is expected to step into a larger offensive role, giving the Falcons a versatile weapon in the backfield. On defense, middle linebacker Nathan Reyes leads the charge after earning first-team, all-district honors with 67 tackles and 4 sacks. Fellow senior Brad Sheehy (second-team) adds experience and toughness to the linebacker corps.
...
The road ahead may be challenging for Cypress Ridge, but under Andrew Shanle, the Rams are focused on building a new foundation. After finishing 3-7 in 2024 and graduating much of their core – especially on defense – this year’s group will rely heavily on emerging leaders. Senior running back Zion Cornish returns as the focal point of the offense after earning second-team, all-district honors. He’ll run behind junior offensive lineman Jayden Williams, another second-team selection, who brings size and experience to the front line. Additionally, senior linebacker Noel Tovar (second-team) anchors a unit looking to develop quickly. Competing in a tough district, Cy Ridge’s success may hinge on how fast its new faces settle into key roles.
...
Though Northbrook finished 2-8 and extended its district winless streak to seven straight seasons, there were signs of progress in head coach Demond Stafford’s first year at the helm. The Raiders opened 2024 with back-to-back wins—their best start in 17 years—offering a spark of optimism for a program eager to turn the corner. Now in year two, Stafford and his squad are focused on growth, aiming to turn early momentum into more consistent results in one of the area’s toughest districts.CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE PHOTOS FROM THE CITYWIDE PHOTOSHOOT
