The 411: Fort Bend Christian Academy's Jordan Kelly

Last season, Jordan Kelly left his mark at Fort Bend Christian Academy in his first season.

Kelly was named first-team, all-district as a sophomore after the 2019 season and is expecting a big year as he has worked to improve his skills at shortstop and at the plate.

VYPE caught up with the FBCA rising star at the 2020 VYPE FBCA Spring Media Day for The 411.

VYPE: You made All-District last year, what was that like after coming over here and that being your first season with FBCA?

Kelly: "It was great. It was good having all my teammates behind me. Just have them there to improve and make me move to the next level."

VYPE: What have you worked on this offseason to improve your game at shortstop?

Kelly: "One thing I work on a lot are my hands. Just trying to get faster, especially whenever I'm turning it or getting it across the field. Also, I worked on my arm strength to make that throw."

VYPE: Are there certain MLB shortstops you watch?

Kelly: "[Francisco] Lindor is one of my favorites to watch in the field. Also, I like Corey Seager. He's been hurt the past few seasons, but I think he's a really good shortstop."

VYPE: What have you been working on at the plate to get better?

Kelly: "For me it's just all about catching the ball deep and trying to go the other way and when the time comes just turn on it."

VYPE: Coming off last year, do you think you are lined up for a District MVP-caliber season?

Kelly: "Of course. I feel like if I play my game and I do all the things that I know I can do, I can be the best in the area."

VYPE: What's your walk-up song for 2020?

Kelly: "It's Under Enemy Arms by Trippie Redd. I was in the car one day and it came on and I was like this is it."

VYPE: What do you love the most about this game?

Kelly: "I think going through all the successes with a team is probably the best thing. Just having everyone around to celebrate with is one of the coolest things about this game. It's never a one-person thing, it's always a team thing."

VYPE: What do you like to do outside of baseball?

Kelly: "I like doing all kinds of sports. I play football and basketball. Other than that it's school and workout."
