With the emergence of Texas and Oklahoma into the SEC, Texas high school football players don’t have to look very far to play in the top conference in college football.
For one star Houston athlete, this move made it easy to pledge his commitment to the ‘Crimson and Cream’.
Atascocita 4-star running back Tory Blaylock committed to Oklahoma today picking the Sooners over Oregon, Texas, Ohio State, Tennessee and Alabama.
“Oklahoma Is a great place with a great staff," he said. "I feel Coach Venables and Coach Murray can develop me into a great player and they also have a lot to offer off the field."
Talking with Blaylock, the relationships built by the staff really impacted his decision to commit to the Sooners as well as having a Sooner legend as his position coach.
“The relationship is very tight. They have nothing but great coaches and great people on the staff,” he said. “Getting coached by Coach (DeMarco) Murray Is almost like a dream come true. He was one of the backs I used to watch as a kid and now I get to learn from him… I’m ready to get to work."
The Sooners will start their first year in the SEC next fall, and for Blaylock, it is the competition he wants to be playing against.
“Playing in the SEC is exactly where I want to be," he said. "It's the best conference in college football. Coach Venables is really working up in Norman… OU is going to do some great things.”
The star Texas high school running back will be taking his talents to Norman but also plans to bring a few friends along with him.
“I want to be surrounded by the best, other players who want to come in and work," he said. "This class is going to be special.and will win some championships.”
The Sooners are coming in hot grabbing one of the best backs in the State, but for Blaylock, he’s just happy to be able to continue on the family legacy.
“It’s what I’ve been working for,” Blaylock said. “My Dad and brothers set the standard for me and pushed me to get here. I appreciate them for showing me the way.”
