10 Games to Watch in Week 11 of DFW High School Football

Football kickoff

Thursday, Nov. 5

Prosper Walnut Grove vs. Allen at Eagle Stadium

Allen, ranked No. 2 in Class 6A in the Dave Campbell’s Texas Football/Associated Press poll, will have a chance to finish the regular season with a 10-0 mark. Walnut Grove (7-2) will likely be without QB1 Ashton Gosselin, who suffered an arm injury last week vs. Prosper.

Plano East vs. Coppell at Buddy Echols Stadium

Coppell, at 7-2 and 5-1 in District 7-6A, is in second place heading into this game. However, the Plano East Panthers are nipping at the Cowboys’ heels with a 4-2 mark in district play and 6-3 overall. Plano East was 3-7 last year, but a playoff berth isn’t guaranteed without a win. Why? Richardson Berkner and Plano are both 3-3 in district play.

Lewisville at Little Elm at Lobo Stadium

Landon Brazzell had a breakout game last week vs. Denton Braswell. The Lewisville junior had 7 catches for 211 yards and 5 TDs — a beneficiary of Laykon Brassfield throwing a school-record 8 TDs. Lewisville (6-3) will be the District 5-6A champion regardless of the outcome against Little Elm, 4-5 and 1-5.

Red Oak at North Crowley at Crowley ISD Multipurpose Stadium

The No. 1-ranked team in Class 6A will wrap up the season, looking for another undefeated regular season. That happened 3 out of 4 years under former coach Ray Gates. DeMarcus Harris is about to match that.

Euless Trinity vs. Hurst L.D. Bell at Pennington Field

Who doesn’t love a good rivalry game? Euless Trinity is 7-2 overall and 6-0 in District 8-6A. The Trojans are alone in first place, but L.D. Bell is 5-1 in district play and a win here changes the playoff seedings for both. Based on history, favor the Trojans, who are 21-1 vs. Bell since 2004.

Cleburne at DeSoto at Eagle Stadium

The final regular-season home game for SaRod Baker, one of the best running backs to pass through the school. He’s the career rushing leader and has passed legends like Tiger Riden and Byron Hanspard. Baker has 1,218 yards and 19 TDs on the ground this year. Cleburne enters the game seeking win No. 1 this season.

Friday, Nov. 6

Rockwall vs. Rockwall-Heath at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium

The Rockwall Yellowjackets are 7-2 and winners of 3 in a row. The setbacks have come against No. 10 Longview and a Prosper squad with one loss. Rockwall is in 2nd place in District 10-6A with a 5-1 mark, while Rockwall-Heath is right behind with a 4-2 district record. QB Collin Jones has thrown for 2,193 yards and 30 TDs for Rockwall this season.

Fort Worth Carter-Riverside vs. Fort Worth Southwest at Scarbrough-Handley Field

The playoffs start next week, but this is a playoff game for both teams. Each holds a 3-3 record in District 5-4A Division I play and the top three seeds are secured by Fort Worth Eastern Hills, Kennedale and Benbrook. Southwest is 4-5 overall and went 4-6 last year and missed the playoffs. Carter-Riverside was 4-7 last year, but got to the playoffs for the first time since 1995.

Brock at Mineral Wells at Ram Stadium

Brock shot up to No. 2 in the poll this week after hammering No. 8-ranked Graham, 59-7, last week. But another tough game is on the slate this week with a road trip to Mineral Wells. The Rams are 8-1 — like Brock — and are 3-1 and tied for second in District 4-4A Division II. Brock has outscored the past three opponents, 195-7. Mineral Wells went 4-7 last year and started this year 6-0, the best start since 1995.

Saturday, Nov. 7

Fort Worth Country Day School vs. Arlington Oakridge at Oak Ridge Upper School

This is a Southwest Prep Conference 3A semifinal game with the winner getting either St. Andrew’s Episcopal School or Episcopal School of Dallas in the finals next week. This is a rematch of a game on Oct. 9 that Oak Ridge won handily, 51-12. Kingston James caught a pair of touchdowns for the Owls (8-1). The rushing attack added 489 yards against the defense for the Falcons, who are 6-4.
