Dickinson's breakthrough felt inevitable a season ago. Armed with one of Houston’s most imposing rosters, the Gators came within inches of reaching their first UIL State Final Four since capturing a championship in 1977. A 13-1 finish in 2025 was only blemished by a Region III Final loss to North Shore, which went on to claim the UIL 6A Division I title. That narrow miss has only intensified Dickinson’s hunger as the Gators look to carve their names into program history this fall. Reigning District MVP Lorenzo Aguirre returns under center following a prolific junior season in which he amassed more than 3,400 passing yards and 43 touchdowns. The senior quarterback will have no shortage of weapons, headlined by senior receiver Ja’marion Payne and versatile junior Jayse Washington. Payne hauled in eight touchdown receptions a year ago, while Washington earned second-team all-district honors and provides a dynamic presence across the field. Senior tailback Tavin Gomez powers the ground attack in response to securing second-team recognition last season, with Michael Pugh Jr. adding another explosive option in the backfield. First-team all-district selections Chase Lewis and Braeylon Bradley anchor a formidable front for head coach John Snelson’s defense. Lewis enters his senior year with major recruiting momentum after posting 71 tackles and six sacks, earning offers from North Texas, UTSA, Tulane, UNLV, and UTEP. Four-star cornerback Royce Bimage paces a ball-hawking secondary after a breakout sophomore showing that drew interest from Ohio State, Texas A&M, LSU, Notre Dame, Miami, and USC. Safety Darian Coleman and linebacker Ethan Sampson round out the unit, fortifying the back end and interior, respectively.

The Eagles make their Conference 6A debut this fall on the heels of a 10-4 campaign that culminated in a Region III Final appearance. Barbers Hill quickly re-established itself as a bona fide contender under first-year head coach Cody Simper, and all indications suggest The Hill is equipped to maintain that standard despite the jump in classification. Continuing the theme of change, one of the offseason’s most intriguing developments was the arrival of quarterback Luke Babin. The four-star Baylor commit joins the Eagles after a standout stint at Woodville, where he secured District 12-3A Division II Co-MVP distinction. Babin accounted for more than 3,000 passing yards and 40 touchdowns, adding nearly 600 rushing yards and seven more scores on the ground. He’ll fit right in with a proven group in Mont Belvieu. Athlete Kaegan Morton (UTSA) emerges as the focal point of the Eagles’ skill-position unit, bringing the type of game-breaking speed that propelled him to the UIL Track & Field State Meet this past spring. Anthony “Bowe” Bonnet Jr. gives Barbers Hill another reliable weapon out wide after a second-team all-district nod. Miles Spurlock (So. RB) is a name to watch, already holding Division I offers from Houston, Texas Tech, UTSA, and Texas State. Senior Cameron Davis adds experience in the backfield, while Max Summers and Breydon Nelson provide muscle up front. Defensively, the tandem of Raiden Cook and Bryce Jackson is primed to wreak havoc in the trenches. Cook, a four-star Houston commit, returns after recording 10.5 sacks in just eight games, while New Mexico State-bound senior Bryce Jackson added 15 of his own. Their disruptive presence should pay dividends for a Barbers Hill secondary led by Chris Clark, Kross Kilgo, and Cole Ackerman.

Continuity works in Deer Park’s favor as September approaches, giving the Deer an opportunity to carry forward the progress established during a 6-5 showing a year ago. A three-way tie for second in the district standings set up a daunting first-round matchup with North Shore, making an early postseason exit easier to understand. Even so, the experience should serve as a valuable springboard for a program that appears to be on the rise. The driving force behind head coach Austin Flynn’s offense remains running back Trace Yates. Now a senior, Yates totaled more than 700 yards from scrimmage and six touchdowns last fall, earning first-team all-district recognition before he announced his commitment to Army West Point in June. Quarterback Haden LaFrenz, who holds offers from Texas State and UTSA, figures to build on an impressive sophomore campaign. He threw for more than 1,500 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2025, adding 557 rushing yards and six more scores on the ground. Those efforts resulted in District 24-6A Newcomer of the Year distinction. LaFrenz still has an abundance of weapons at his disposal, most notably second-team all-district wideout Aandon Schroeder and rising Class of 2028 prospect John Arthur-French Jr. First-team all-district pick Jack Paradysz further enhances the offense with his versatility at H-back. Flipping the field, first-team defensive end Michael Benavides commands the pass rush, with first-team middle linebacker Derek Woytek locking down the interior. Juniors Eddie Lopez (DT) and Lex Sablatura (OLB) join the mix after both landing on the second-team all-district squad.

Coach Anthony Renfro and company are coming off another productive fall that saw Clear Springs finish 7-4 overall and secure a playoff berth. Their run ultimately ended against Summer Creek in a challenging Bi-District showdown. Powering the Chargers' response is a new wave of talent, beginning with junior running back Darrien Moore. Expected to take on a larger workload, Moore already flashed his potential with roughly 400 all-purpose yards and nine touchdowns, which earned second-team all-district honors. Fellow second-team selections Connor Walter and Mariano Aguirre bolster an imposing offensive line that also features senior Kaden Sullivan, creating lanes for Elijah Rubins (Sr. RB) to make an impact. Similar to Moore, signal-caller Jaxon Weber will look to carve out his own path as he steps into the Clear Springs QB1 role as a junior, leaning on tight end Koltyn Hutto as a dynamic pass-catching option. On defense, seniors Elisha Rambo and Kaden Corpus shore up a playmaking secondary, with fellow senior Caden Chavez offering two-way potential as a lineman capable of contributing on both sides of the ball.

Clear Falls pieced together seven wins last year and extended its playoff streak to seven consecutive appearances, though the Knights’ momentum was ultimately cut short by eventual 6A Division II State Finalist C.E. King. Defense appears to be the strong suit for coach Zach Head’s squad, led by senior linebackers Tristan Gaviria and Briggs Worthington. Both topped 120 tackles in 2025 en route to second-team all-district accolades. In the trenches, senior James Peralta spearheads the effort to stop the run, while safety Landen Schaft patrols the Knights’ back end. Replacing production will be a priority for Clear Falls following the graduation of quarterback Kyden Barker (Tulsa) and wideout Zach Greer, two unanimous first-team all-district selections. Regardless of who takes over under center, the cupboard isn’t bare. Senior wide receivers Graysonn Sneed, a second-team pick, and Chace Rieman return as dependable targets on the perimeter.

A sixth-place district finish and 3-7 record left Clear Creek searching for answers, but the Wildcats have a chance to rewrite the narrative moving forward. Head coach Dwayne Lane will rely on the one-two punch of J’shon Parks and Luke Rose in the backfield to keep the chains moving. Parks brings a versatile presence, contributing both on the ground and through the air, while Rose serves as a more traditional, every-down back. Defensively, edge rusher Jake Roberts sets the tone up front, carrying momentum from a second-team all-district showing into the fall.

Clear Lake took a step back in 2025, going 1-9 overall with its lone victory coming against Clear Brook. Still, a fresh opportunity awaits the Falcons, who have every reason to believe they can recapture the swagger of 2024, when they reached the postseason. The offense shows flashes of potential, beginning with first-team all-district lineman Mark Breaux. The senior will be counted on to protect quarterback Jordan Foret, a veteran capable of directing the attack. Sophomore athlete Zaedrian Lewis adds another dimension with the ability to impact the game as a passer, runner, or receiver. On defense, Clear Lake has reason for optimism in the secondary. Junior Terrell “TJ” Stinson returns after a stint at Hitchcock, where he earned District 12-3A Division I Newcomer of the Year honors. Already holding multiple Division I offers, Stinson gives the Falcons a legitimate lockdown presence at safety.

The road doesn’t get much easier for Clear Brook, which enters the fall looking to reverse course and climb back into the win column. Offensively, senior Samuel Alfred takes command under center, where he'll look to establish chemistry with WR1 Mack Rebouche, a second-team all-district pick a year ago. Senior Teodoro Garcia strengthens the trenches, while linebackers Rome Jordan and Nicholas Jones team with two-way sophomore athlete Moziah Hayling to reinforce the Wolverines’ defense.

Hot take incoming: C.E. King will win the toughest district in Texas in 2026.
Coach Cory Laxen guided the Panthers to a historic 13-3 record and the school's first-ever appearance in the UIL Class 6A Division II State Championship Game a year ago. Instead of taking a step back, C.E. King may have gotten even better. It starts with one of the biggest offseason additions in the state. Former Hightower quarterback Khylan Davis, a UTSA commit, brings experience, leadership and big-play ability to an offense already loaded with firepower. His receiving corps is arguably unmatched. Dillon Mitchell is the fastest football player in America after an eye-popping spring on the track, while Iowa State commit Braylon Lane gives defenses another vertical nightmare. The Panthers also boast one of the deepest backfields in Texas. Cal commit Antwon Sanders is a physical runner capable of wearing defenses down, while Georgia Tech commit Tristan Willis transfers in from Shadow Creek to provide another explosive weapon. Up front, Brayden Laxen, George Perez, Ethan Guillory and Xavian Ancira form a veteran offensive line capable of dominating the line of scrimmage. Defensively, C.E. King may be even more dangerous. Cameron Sydnor and Tre Jacquet will terrorize quarterbacks from the edge, while Royce Houston and K'Von Fontenot anchor the interior. The secondary is overflowing with talent behind Kei'Dryn Edmond, Enoch Bell, Dekaney transfer Cordey Sherman and versatile safety Xavier Williams.

The defending state champion North Shore Mustangs aren't going anywhere. Willie Gaston captured his first state title as head coach last December, leading North Shore to a thrilling 10-7 victory over Duncanville for the program's sixth UIL championship. While several stars have graduated, replacing talent has never been an issue on Houston's east side. As always, the Mustangs will lean on physicality. The offensive line is enormous and experienced with Brandon Hebert (Princeton), Abdus Kone (Maryland) and Chase Brown paving the way for talented running back Kaden Bradley. Quarterback remains the biggest question entering fall camp, with Gaston acknowledging a three-man competition. Whoever wins the job will have plenty of weapons, including explosive receivers Aubrey Johnson (Memphis), Michael Camacho and Demont Jones. Defensively, North Shore remains loaded. State Championship Game Defensive MVP Tony Guillory (FAU) headlines the secondary alongside Rashaad Williams, while linebackers Da'Sean Royal, O'cee Posey and Kendrick Brown continue the program's tradition of punishing defense. Kobe Charles and Jayden Johnson anchor the interior defensive line. Keep an eye on sophomore defensive end Ezarian Fields. The long, athletic edge rusher has all the physical tools to become the next elite North Shore defender, drawing comparisons to former Mustang great K'Lavon Chaisson. Don't be surprised if North Shore takes a few early lumps while breaking in a new quarterback. The Mustangs open against Lancaster, John Curtis (La.) and South Oak Cliff—one of the toughest non-district schedules in America. The reason? Few teams are willing to schedule North Shore

Summer Creek remains one of the district's biggest threats after reaching the Regional Finals and earning a share of the district championship with a regular-season victory over North Shore. Coach Kenny Harrison returns arguably Houston's most electric offensive tandem in North Carolina-bound quarterback Noah Spinks and Texas Tech commit Benny Easter Jr. Spinks threw for more than 3,600 yards last season, while Easter eclipsed 1,500 receiving yards as one of the state's premier deep threats. The Bulldogs have plenty of complementary weapons as well. Larry Tre Brown gives Spinks another reliable receiver, while Braylin Causey (Missouri State) provides balance in the running game. Together, they accounted for nearly 1,700 additional yards of offense. The defense features speed and physicality, but the Bulldogs' season may ultimately be decided in the trenches. Offensive lineman Keyshawn Dilworth-Berry headlines the front, while Jaylon Howard and Edward Vaenuku must anchor the defensive line. Summer Creek consistently develops young talent, but several newcomers will need to grow up quickly against one of the nation's toughest schedules.

A new era begins at Atascocita. Longtime head coach Craig Stump built the Eagles into one of Houston's premier programs. Now the keys belong to Kyle Coats, who arrives after leading College Park to a district championship and a three-round playoff run. Coats inherits one of the state's best defenses. The secondary is elite behind Oklahoma commit Trenton Blaylock, Houston commit Tavon Bolden and Texas Tech pledge Joshua Banks, who returns healthy. Up front, Texas commit Jason Johnson headlines a disruptive defensive line alongside Yul Everline. Offensively, transfer quarterback Corbin Smekjal reunites with Coats after following him from College Park. Smekjal impressed throughout the 7-on-7 season and will look to connect with Texas State commit Brian Manuel Jr. Behind an experienced offensive line featuring Isaiah Smith, Dominic Brown, Andre Jones and Detram Adkins, the Eagles have the pieces to remain in contention despite graduating Arizona State signee Cardae Mack.

Kingwood narrowly missed the playoffs last season, but optimism surrounds the program under new head coach Stacy Williams. Williams starred at Jack Yates before playing at Baylor and most recently served as an assistant at The Woodlands. His energy has already injected life into the Mustang program. Texas A&M commit Kennedy Brown anchors one of the district's better offensive lines and will be counted on as the team's emotional leader. Quarterback Landon Hinson returns after throwing for more than 2,500 yards and 29 touchdowns. His top target is Kye Wehby (Tarleton State), while running back Ricky Shorts provides balance in the backfield. Nathaniel Buchbinder and Noah Snowden complete a solid offensive front. Defensively, replacing Cade Haug won't be easy, but Gideon Colby, Gavin Womack and Noah Gentry will be tasked with leading the unit.

Crosby makes the jump to Class 6A under first-year head coach Jabara Williams, who arrives after a successful stint at Willis. The Cougars return eight starters on defense, giving them a solid foundation entering one of Texas' deepest districts. Ne'Ryan Harris and Noah Murrin anchor the defensive front, while linebackers Adam Sloan and Sirr Soileau patrol the middle. Defensive back Josiah Johnson is the playmaker in the secondary. Offensively, everything revolves around quarterback Lott Robinson, who accounted for more than 2,500 total yards and 34 touchdowns a season ago. Running backs Owen Morris and Ayden Worthington provide a dangerous one-two punch.

At Humble, veteran head coach Robert Murphy will once again rely on quarterback Vincent Joseph to lead the Wildcats' offense. Joseph has dependable targets in Joseph Ford and tight end Ja'Quarius Moore, giving Humble experience at the skill positions. Defensively, linebackers Kyran Washington and Luke Arrendondo lead the front seven, while Drayden Evans anchors the secondary.

Perhaps the most intriguing storyline belongs to Channelview, where veteran coach Clarence McKinney returns to the high school ranks.The former Texas Southern head coach and longtime assistant at Texas A&M, Arizona and Houston brings decades of college coaching experience back to Friday nights. His last stop in Texas high school football came at Yates, where he established himself as one of Houston's brightest football minds. Wide receiver Davion Vanderbilt, a Maryland commit and cousin of Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts, headlines the Falcons' roster and will set the tone as both a playmaker and leader. While surviving District 23-6A will be a daunting challenge, don't be surprised if Channelview builds confidence with a strong 3-0 start in non-district play before entering the league gauntlet.

The Cy-Fair Bobcats have undergone a complete offensive transformation under head coach Jeff Miller. Gone are the days of simply grinding out wins on the ground. These are the "Bomb Away" Bobcats, and with veteran quarterback Sean Riegler pulling the trigger, they have become one of the most explosive passing attacks in the Greater Houston area. Riegler flourished in Miller's offense last season, throwing for nearly 3,000 yards and 29 touchdowns while showcasing one of the district's strongest arms. His favorite targets, Henry Brooks and Kevin Ferrywood, form one of Houston's premier receiving tandems after combining for more than 1,800 yards and 16 touchdowns. Up front, Paolo Arellano and Eric Montoya anchor an experienced offensive line, while Noah Williams and rising sophomore Elijah Scott provide balance in the running game. Defensively, the Bobcats return seven starters, giving them the experience needed to complement their explosive offense. Drayton Hawkins and Bra'lon Cage headline the unit, while Brock Ellison and Connor Sitton add toughness and playmaking ability. If the defense continues to develop, Cy-Fair has the firepower to make a deep postseason run.

For the past several seasons, Cypress Falls has built its identity around defense, and don't expect that formula to change. Fresh off a Regional Semifinal appearance, head coach Chris Brister once again fields one of the state's most intimidating defenses. Texas A&M commit Kaden McCarty is the centerpiece. The elite edge is one of the premier defenders in Texas and will wreak havoc alongside Division I prospect James Harris. The duo has the athleticism and explosiveness to live in opposing backfields all season. Linebackers Gavin Larks and Austin Chavis clean up everything between the tackles, while Cameron Colvin anchors the secondary. Offensively, the Eagles have enough weapons to complement their defense. Quarterback Christian Ndujiuba has the arm talent to stretch defenses vertically and will distribute the football to playmakers Murry Charles, Andre Lewis, Karzel Davis and Colvin. Running back Deron Simpson returns after rushing for more than 1,100 yards, giving Cy Falls a physical presence in the ground game, while quarterback Bryce Marshall could also see snaps in specialized packages.

The Cypress Lakes Spartans made history in 2025 by reaching the playoffs for the first time since the school opened in 2010. Head coach Tyrone Carter has changed the trajectory of the program, but sustaining that success will be the next challenge. Everything begins with one of the state's fastest-rising prospects, Chase Mayes. At 6-foot-5, Mayes is an imposing presence on both the offensive and defensive lines and could become the most heavily recruited football player in school history. He anchors an offensive line protecting quarterback Darius Watson while opening holes for running backs Braylen Dugar and Bryce Arrington. Watson has no shortage of targets, throwing to an athletic receiving corps featuring Davon Griffin, Aquarius Crowder, Josiah Stewart and Eric Liberty. On defense, Mayes slides inside alongside Jeremiah Melendez and Daryll Shelpton, while linebacker Ja'Merce Johnson sets the tone. Griffin and Cameron Dumes headline an athletic secondary capable of creating turnovers.

Few coaches have been more synonymous with explosive offense than Langham Creek's Todd Thompson, but this year's Lobos may be defined by defense. Miami commit Ezekiel Ayangbile is one of the premier defensive linemen in Texas. His combination of size, athleticism, relentless effort and football IQ makes him a nightmare for opposing offenses. Beside him is Texas Tech commit Jhadyn Nelson, giving Langham Creek arguably the district's most dominant defensive front seven. With those two lurking up front, defensive back Jarvious Owens has the freedom to make plays all over the secondary. That defensive strength allows the offense to play complementary football. Quarterback Jace Williams directs the attack, handing the ball to Jordan King and Isaack Lewis while looking downfield for Camarre Palmer, Ethan Robinson and Mason Dowty.

Cypress Woods hopes Year Two under head coach Jeremy Hickman brings significant improvement after a difficult 2025 campaign. The Wildcats are expected to utilize both Max Terral and Axel Adams at quarterback, while running back Cory McKenzie returns after rushing for more than 500 yards last season. Receiver Niko Tremusini headlines the passing game, while William McLemore and Shawn Doyon lead the offensive line. Defensively, Kaden Midkiff anchors the front, linebackers Aiden Haby and Brady Sheppard control the middle, and a veteran secondary featuring Zach Nicholas, Kevin Cooper, Nataniel Barnes, Ryan McKnight and Xzaviah Ammanoo gives Cypress Woods experience on the back end.

The formula at Cypress Creek is simple—score points. Head coach Deveon McKinney believes an explosive offense can carry the Cougars back into playoff contention. Quarterback Kyle Moss, who threw for more than 1,200 yards last season, appears poised for a breakout year with talented receivers Tre'Mayne Cartwright, Tyson Brooks and Taven Oluwa at his disposal. Running back Jaidan Perez provides balance, while veteran lineman Bradyn Bloom anchors the offensive front. The defense will need to take a step forward behind linebacker Parker Osborne, defensive lineman Dyllon Harris and playmaker Jayden Peacock if the Cougars hope to compete for one of the district's playoff spots.

Both Jersey Village and Cypress Ridge enter the season looking to crash the postseason conversation. At Jersey Village, head coach Levelle Norris returns quarterback Rodney Robinson, who will operate behind an offensive line led by Calvin Thigpen. Defensively, Houston commit Cael Thigpen headlines the defensive line alongside Leo Barbour, while linebacker Micah Nelson and defensive back Jeremiah Reyes round out an experienced unit. Over at Cypress Ridge, head coach Andrew Shanle will lean heavily on running back Grant Gordon as the Rams look to become one of the district's surprise teams.
