The quest for the District 6-6A title is far from over, but some of the contenders for one of the four playoff berths are coming into focus after Week 7.
After another week of Texas high school football action, three teams are still unbeaten in district play: Denton Braswell, Carrollton Hebron and Lewisville. At least one of those teams will lose this week as Hebron and Lewisville battle for a share of first.
It will be another big game for the Fighting Farmers, who are now 3-3 overall after a 41-7 win over Denton Guyer last week.
Guyer, at the time, was ranked No. 10 in Class 6A.
The win helps the Farmers crack the national Top 25 on MaxPreps.
Lewisville and Guyer were tied at 7-7 after the opening 12 minutes.
The Fighting Farmers dominated from there and the story of the game was how opportunistic they were on offense, defense and special teams.
It started in the first quarter.
Missouri State pledge Derrick Martin IIII had an interception to give Lewisville the ball.
A mere 9 seconds later, the Farmers were in the end zone. Quarterback Aiden Evans connected with Xavier Miles for a 41-yard touchdown.
The Wildcats (4-2, 1-1) had the ball four times in the second quarter and the outcomes were: punt, punt, interception, missed field goal. Meanwhile, Lewisville extended the lead to 28-7.
A wide receiver-to-wide receiver touchdown pass from Duece Mathis to Martin was the first touchdown of the second quarter.
Mathis, a Northern Arizona pledge, had a 73-yard punt return to extend the lead.
Then, Devin Robinson had a 37-yard pick-6 for the Farmers’ defense. The senior is a Sam Houston State pledge.
Guyer, who had previously only lost to then No. 1-ranked Waxahachie, got the ball to open the third.
The drive lasted 4 minutes, but Vahn Malvo picked off Carter Morgan to give the Farmers the ball back.
Then, Lewisville scored again.
But not before 17 players were run and all but the final 38 seconds of the quarter ticked away. Evans, another Sam Houston State pledge, connected with Landon Brazzell for a 15-yard touchdown. That came one play after a 15-yard penalty against Guyer.
Lewisville was facing a 3rd-and-17 from the 30-yard line.
The what-could-go-wrong-did-go-wrong for Guyer continued in the fourth.
The Wildcats punted and Mathis took back 68 yards for his second punt return score of the game.
Guyer got some traction going and put together a 75-yard drive. Morgan ran for 18 yards and was near the goal line. The ball got knocked out at the 1-yard line and turned into a touchback and the Farmers got the ball at the 20-yard line.
Guyer actually had more yards and first downs in the game, 20 to 15 on the latter and then 380 to 272 on yards.
The difference was 5 turnovers by the Wildcats — 3 interceptions and 2 fumbles.

POWER GRID: VYPE Houston Volleyball Rankings | Cy Ranch Rises, Clear Springs and Lake Creek Hold Firm
12 Oct, 2026
The featured standouts of the 2026-27 Clear Springs Chargers volleyball team.
Farrah Sheeren (VYPE)
The district races are tightening, winning streaks are stacking up, and momentum is fluctuating across the board.
In 6A, Cypress Ranch has surged to the top of H-Town, extending its winning streak to 19 games and moving within reach of the District 23-6A crown after a 3-1 victory over Fulshear last Thursday.
Memorial remains firmly in pursuit of another dominant finish, having suffered just one loss since August — against Cypress Ranch — while closing in on back-to-back district championships.
Clear Springs, meanwhile, continues to look like one of the state’s most cohesive and formidable teams. Despite a recent five-set loss to Deer Park, the Chargers are well-positioned to claim their fifth consecutive district title.
Dawson has also made its move, breaking into the Top 10 as its winning streak reaches 16 games. The Eagles are now three victories away from another undefeated district campaign.
Elsewhere, Summer Creek makes its debut in the rankings after edging Atascocita in five sets at the end of September. The two will have another chance to settle the score in a must-see regular-season finale on October 23 that could decide the 17-6A race.
The 5A picture is just as compelling. Lake Creek continues to look like the class of the classification after splitting series with A&M Consolidated and College Station. The Lions’ toughest remaining test appears to be Montgomery, which they defeated in September, while undefeated Friendswood and Kempner are strengthening their cases as legitimate postseason threats.

Westlake remains on top of this week’s Power Rankings after cruising to an easy win. That was the simple part, as all heck broke loose behind the Chaps. As the dust from several high-profile showdowns settled, it revealed a plethora of comers and goers.
Undefeated Cedar Ridge is the biggest gainer by far, rocketing to #2 after a Goal Line stand helped the Raiders hold off Lake Travis at Cavalier Stadium. (Anyone else looking forward to their upcoming showdown with Westlake?) Round Rock climbs a spot to #3 despite their Bye, based primarily on earlier wins over the two teams immediately behind the Dragons #4 Dripping Spring and #5 Vandegrift.
Cedar Park was the other team that scored a massive win, coming back late to overtake Hutto and moving up to #6 ahead of this week’s grudge match with the Vipers. Lake Travis settles at #7 while Bowie moves up three spots to #8 with an impressive win over Hays. Hutto leads a parade of teams that dropped games last week, landing at #9 while Weiss rounds out the Top 10.
Anderson drops a couple spots but still tops the second tier after running into a buzzsaw in Smithson Valley. Rouse rebounded from their loss to Cedar Park to move to #12, followed by Liberty Hill and Hays. Wimberley remains the highest-ranked 4A squad at #15.
Georgetown climbs a spot to #16, as did Lago Vista to #17 and Hendrickson to #18. Legacy Ranch continues to impress and reenters the Rankings at #19 while Taylor rounds out the slate after dropping their game in a basketball score at Tivy.
Regents held off a strong challenge from Legacy Sports and Sciences to remain atop the private school rankings. And while St. Michaels suffered its second defeat of the season, there’s enough separation between them and the rest of the local private schools to keep the Warriors at #2.
Not surprisingly, several big matchups – Cedar Park vs. Vandegrift, we’re looking at you – are on tap again this week. We’ll see if the deck shuffles again.
