Stony Point followed up their wins over ranked Westwood and Round Rock to start the new year with two more quality wins last week -- on the road at #9 Vandegrift and home against a feisty Vista Ridge squad – to remain atop the Power Rankings. While the rest of the Top 5 followed suit, Liberty Hill could make a case to move to the podium after clutch wins over #10 Leander and at #13 Rouse in double overtime. For now, the Panthers remain in fourth behind St. Michael’s, the pair nestled between Westwood and Round Rock.
There was minor movement throughout the rankings this week. 6A Westlake stepped over 4A Lago Vista after the latter dropped a game to sub-.500 St. Stephen’s. East View paired a win over Weiss with a victory over crosstown rival Georgetown to flip spots with Vandegrift – although the latter pushed Stony Point pretty hard. Lastly, Rouse and McCallum both bypassed Dripping Springs after the Tigers suffered a nasty upset against Austin High.
Now the boys’ teams get to do it all over again as they begin their second pass through their respective districts.
